I left the login data at default, but when I try to login, it doesn't accept it. The login screen just blinks off for a second and reappears. All of the login data is entered correctly, so why the problem?

That is so very strange....

I would clear your CACHE on your web browser..

if that doesn't work...then do a reset on the router.

and they just came out with new firmware for that router....

Resetting the router didn't help, nor did clearing the cache on the browser. Actually, I tried it in both Opera and IE with the same result. Something that seems odd to me, is that instead of going to a local file, it seems to be going to a server online. If I simply enter 192.168.1.1 nothing happens when I hit enter or the go button. When I use Cisco Connect instead, it enters http://192.168.1.1. I really dislike that, because I'm not sure if the problem is at my end or their's.

Are you directly wired to the router? IIRC some Cisco Linksys disables web access from wifi...

My primary rig is hardwired to the router, my secondary rig is WiFi. I have tried logging in with both of them with the same result. Another oddity is that it seems that the secondary rig has a direct connection, via the router, because it remains connected, even with the primary rig shut down.

What exactly did you do when you reset your router? Cisco Linksys won't reset by just reset button press... there's some more trick to it.

Ouch, that's for a real Cisco router, the one that costs few thousand... this is the one to reset Cisco Linksys... (hint: hold reset for 30 secs, OR, hold reset while powering up).

I did it three different ways...just press and release the reset button for a normal reset, press and hold it for some seconds for it to reset to default values and toggling the power switch. Same results regardless of which used.

Cisco Linksys has a unique way to reset, pressing the reset button for "some seconds" won't do anything to it... read the guide I posted earlier. If everything fails, press the reset button for 3 secs (until the LAN LEDs blips) turn off the router (keep on holding the reset button) then power up (still pressing the reset button), wait for 30 seconds AFTER turning on... What a hassle...:o

I think that he has a very faulty device... maybe needs to go back and get another one.

I would say flash the firmware but can't even get into the device webpage long enough to do that.

I don't think so, Cisco Linksys are known to be a bit "sensitive"... I know, since I got quite a few, and every single one of them inhibit some kind of uniqueness to it... A hard reset is all it needs... :)

Thanks for pointing me back to your link. Even though it was for a different router than mine, I tried it the way that it described, using "admin" as the password, instead of the username as shown by default in Cisco Connect, and leaving the password blank, and it worked. Very strange that it doesn't use the login data that it says that it does.

I think that I'm finally getting a handle on this router, but one problem persists...I have to replug the cable from the modem to the router every couple of days, or the bandwidtch gets narrower and narrower. I'm swopped out cables and inspected the ethernet slot on the router, finding nothing visibly wrong. Short of an RMA, is there anything that I can do to clear this up?
