Logical partitions disappear upon reboot

Hi,

Everytime I reboot my machine my logical partitions of the extended drive disappear. They re-appear only
when I go to Computer management -> Disk Management and then do refresh drives.

It is very frustrating as I have to do this for every reboot.

Welcome to SevenForums.

Just try this. Change the drive letters of your logical drives to something higher in the order say R,S,T,U,V etc. - something that hadn't been used before by any device. Reboot and see whether these stick.

It did not help.

I still need to refresh in disk management for drives to appear.

Is there a reason you have to use logical partitions? IN the rare event I partition a drive to more than one partition, I set them each as primary. Might be worth a shot.

I have one (C drive) as my primary parition. Then, the extended drive which is divided into 4 more partitions. But, I dont understand what is the problem with having extended drive. I have similar partition schemes in my other Windows 7 machines and it works fine. I had even deleted my extended drive, formatted and even reinstalled the Operating system.
But, the problem still persists.

Hi pavangm,

I would speculate that somehow the Windows 7 disk management tool fails to write the permanent partition information to the MBR causing the partitions to be lost after the restart.

If you still want to have logical drives, I would suggest that you try a third party partitioning tool like MiniTools Partition wizard to delete the extended partition and then create your logical drives with it. See whether the logical drives stick.

Try deleting those partitions, restarting and then re-creating them. Make sure you back up your data before doing this.
