Solved Login Screen question

A while back I set a password, but decided to remove it. Prior to setting the password whenever the machine started up, my account would just automatically come up. After setting the password, I had to login at the login screen. After clearing the password, I still have to select my user icon at the login screen to get my account to come up. How do I reset that so the account just comes up?

control userpasswords2

Hit enter and insure that users must enter a name and password is unchecked

Thanks, but I ran into a bit of a snag.

I followed the instruction on the link that you provided. It appeared to me that I needed to set a password so that it would automatically login. I did that, but now I am not able to login at all. I am getting an error telling me that my password is wrong.

There is a link on the login page that will allow me to reset my password, but I need some kind of password disc. Any idea what that is and how I get it?

Hello Daryl,

See if you may be able to boot into Safe Mode, then use the new replaced link above to enter the password again to see if that may help. You would leave the password fields blank if you did not create a password for the user account though.

Thanks Shawn, but I seem to be having some issues getting into Safe Mode. I've pressed F8 multiple times, but Windows just keeps loading. I've never had an issue getting into Safe Mode before. Is there something different with Windows 7 than previous versions?

Okay, I got this figured out. It was so simple that I'm kicking myself for it.

I did not create a password for my user account, but I did enter in a password using the control userpasswords2. Your comment here made me think to try "NO" password in the password field, and it worked. I now changed the settings with the control userpasswords2 command and I am back in business.
