Logitech G700 (in my case) can't directly map G-buttons.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to read my post! :)

I have a problem that seems very common on high-end mice, that although it has a large number of additional buttons, I can't directly map half of these to a function, I have to map them to a key-press in order to perform action X,Y,Z in a game/application.

I'm trying to map Ventrilo Push to Talk button to a G-key on my mouse but in order to do this, I have to set it up to perform a key-press as though it's a keyboard, this is a pain as it means if I alt tab to any of a great number of applications, that key press is likely to have some adverse effect on the application I'm focused on.

I'm aware the reasoning for this is because Windows in all it's glory, doesn't account for mice that may have more than the standard few buttons (I believe Left, Right, Middle, Back, Forward), meaning you have to map G-buttons to key presses.

Has anyone found a workaround for isses like this? I hear this is the bane of many a gamer. I'd set push to talk to a key like page up/dn since I never use those, but it would affect my browser, or another key might affect game X, and another key may affect Game Y.

Appreciate your help. :)

I really can't help you much there as I've never tried doing what you are talking about. I have a G500 and use the in game keyboard controls to map the mouse buttons. Most of the in game controls work just fine. I know I probably should, but I've never tried to use the Logitech software for mouse buttons. I use it to map the keys on the G510 keyboard. What I've found is that once the keys on the keyboard are mapped to something in any game, you can use the in game controls to map them differently in other games. The mouse may work the same way, but I've never tried them for push to talk. It may work the same.
