Greetings,

I am presently using a Logitech Trackball mouse. It has a cable and is connected to one of my computer's USB 2 ports. I started using it when my cordless Trackball suddenly "died". It just froze in the middle of my monitor and every attempt to revive it failed. Googling for a solution only led me to see that I wasn't the only one experiencing this tragedy. The Logitech forum is literally full of complains concerning the Trackball.

So, after looking at many online reviews on mouses I have decided to purchase the Logitech Optical Gaming Mouse MX518. Even though I am only an occasional gamer the reviews on this mouse are so good that I have decided to buy it. I bought it online at a good price and it will be delivered tomorrow. Here is what pc users have to said about the MX518 on newegg.com

Newegg.com - Logitech MX 518 8 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Optical 1800 dpi Gaming Mouse

I am curious as to what type of mouse some of you are using. It's funny how very little is written in pc forums concerning a mouse. It's a small piece of hardware but it plays a huge role in the daily operation of your computer but especially (I think) in gaming. For example, last week when my cordless Trackball died I couldn't immediately find this one and until I found it I couldn't use my computer!

I have a Genius Traveler 515, Sucks big time... i'm really picky with mice!

Used to have a Laser BenQ that lasted me 2yrs. awesome feeling, awesome precision. this P.o.S. is not precise at all.. i'm looking for a Razer or a Logitech but the prices here are way too high

Even though i don't game too much.. i do like a precise mouse, preferrably a laser one :geek: i realized not so long ago that the mouse pad helps you a lot, too. but then, again, the prices here are too high

I just replaced my Logitech Trackman Wheel (USB) with a Logitech Wireless Trackball M570. The old Trackman Wheel still works, its on my backup rig now. I've been using a trackball so long now I can't see ever going back to a mouse. I play a lot or FPS games like Medal of Honor, Halo and Wolfenstien.

Before I install the MX518 should I delete the Trackball from Control Panel, Hardware & Sound, Device & Printers? I didn't install drivers for the Trackball. Windows recognized it on startup and installed the drivers for me. The MX518 either comes with a disc with drivers or I can download them from Logitech's website

I have downloaded the latest drivers from their website and think to first delete the Trackball from Win7 Device & Printers BEFORE installing the MX518. I don't know if this will uninstall the drivers installed by Windows but I hope it will. I can see in Windows Security and Update that SP1 is waiting to be installed. I will do that after installing the MX518. Sometimes a SP can change things that you would rather not have changed.

I just unplugged my trackball and installed the new one. I was just using the built in windows drivers like you. I think it just shows up as a HID compliant mouse, so there should be no need to delete it or uninstall it.

alphanumeric,

Thanks for your reply. I do not want any conflict of drivers. I see that you also like to use the Logitech Trackball mouse. I was considering buying one but the 50+ euros that I paid for the one that suddenly went belly up has made me reluctant to do so. If I did take the plunge later I would not buy a wireless but a cabled USB.

The only reason I upgraded was my old trackman wheel didn't have a back button on it. It only had the normal mouse buttons and scroll wheel. Its a thumb ball trackball, the ball is on the left side not in the middle. The new one is exactly the same but has the back and forward buttons. Its only sold in a wireless version or I would have gone USB. Now that I've gone that route though my next keyboard will be a Logitech Wireless Unifying Keyboard.

The Trackball mouse that I am now using has the trackball on the left with a rolling scroll function in the center with left and right clicking functions. The Trackman that I was thinking of getting is this one

Trackman® Marble®

I sometimes experience sudden cramping in my right hand due to a past injury.Because of that I've tended to prefer the Trackball. If I do purchase another Trackball, which is likely, it will DEFINITELY be one with a USB port connector. I will not run the risk of shelling out another 50+ euros for a wireless that dies in mid-screen.

I'm so used to using my thumb I don't think i could get used to one with the ball in the center. The other thing I notice with that trackball is no scroll wheel?
