Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000

Has anyone gotten the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 to work with Windows 7? I've tried with Vista compatibility and also with XP and it just doesn't want to work. Any help out there?

My rather naive solution was to alter the configuration file by changing the value being sensed for the OS version to accomdate Win 7 beta.

This worked for me on Win 7 Beta 1 64 bit Ultimate. QuickCam and all its features work fine.

Ini file modification

I ran into the message (paraphrased) that "this software isn't meant for your OS" so, not trusting the compatability mode for complex installs, I took a look at where in the install scripting the OS was being sensed.

I used the distributions disk that came with the QCP9000. I copied it to a spare HD volume and modified the setup.ini file's [OS64] section in the "Elevated" folder from MaxVersion=6.0.9000 to MaxVersion=7.0.0000 and installed from the modified file set.

I may have made another, similar change to one of the other cfg or ini files - sorry but I don't recall. Anyway, after doing this the install proceed normally for me and now, under 64Bit W7 Ultimate I have QuickCam and drivers working fine. This installation also works fine with Skype and MSN Messenger video calls.

Hmm. Does not work for me. The install fails to start the service properly and cant complete due to that.

Well, missing information doesn't help, but thanks anyway, and yes, I've checked with Logitech and I do have the latest software for the x64 OS. I guess I'll just have to wait for Logitech to get off of their rear ends. But thanks to all anyway.

I just installed a LogiTech QuickCam Chat (I think it was their lowest priced model).

Win7 7000 x64

Inserted setup CD > Browse CD files > Right click Setup appl > run as administrator > Run as Vista

It installed & works

You could try some older Logitech drivers. Sometimes they work, until a new driver is released.

Did try the Logitech forums. They are extremely quick on shutting down any threads that even mention the word Windows 7. It is against the TOS to mention a beta OS or discuss a beta OS at all.

There are three of four posts a day they shoot down. They even had one guy who said he had figured a work around and was going to tell people but they shut it down.

Okay, since no one else has solved this yet or supplied the answer I figured it out.

Step one: Unplug your camera.
Step two: Download the Vista x64 drivers from here.
Step three: Right click on the drivers, set the compatibility mode to Vista, and run as Administrator.
Step four: Install these drivers, making sure to uncheck the download updates.
Step five: Allow them to reboot the PC. You will now have an older version of the drivers running. Plug in your camera, and click skip if it is on a step trying to find it, since it wont. Step up the camera.
Step six: unplug the camera and right click on the Quickcam software and choose to update it.
Step seven: proceed to the update, and after it looks like the process is stalled bring up task manager with CTRL+ALT+DEL.
Step eight.: Kill LVpRS64h.exe as well as the other logitech service.
This will allow the installer to finish, it has an issue stopping the service properly on its own.

Done. You now have the latest version of the Quickcam Pro software running on Windows 7 x64 build 7000.

Mine worked after fresh OS install, 7057 x64................didn't have to do anything special.

It didn't work on 7100 or 7127. It really screws up the whole OS. Both being x64.

Ayep. Definitely do not do this in 7100. It completely corrupts windows. The other QuickCam thread on the forums has a new workaround for the newer builds.

What did you do to fix this? When I boot, I get a black screen. No desktop, icons or start menu. I'm able to launch programs using CMD, however, I'm unable to launch explorer.exe It loads, than disappears. So this is my main problem. Using win7's auto fix does not work, nor does restore to previous good settings. I've also tried to delete ANYTHING related to logitech.

This works fine now with the software from their web site. There are no longer any issues with the QuickCam Pro 9000.

I have it running flawlessly on two different PCs and a laptop running the release version of Windows 7.

Logitech supplies Windows 7 x64 drivers.

There are no options for Win 7 OS for logitech 4000.
