hi, after restoring an image of my failing hdd to a new one, i cannot boot into windows, as a logonUI.exe / incorrect image / RpcRtRemote.dll or USERENV.dll error appears on the screen and requires long-press power shutdown - perhaps this is due to the image being made as the failing drive already had corrupted files? i have tried the following:
- using win7 repair disk, restoring to a previous restoration point is impossible as none is available -
- repair function does not detect any error -
- sfc /scannow is not feasible from either the c: prompt of safe mode or that of the win7 recovery disk (as sfc expects startup completion, which is prevented by the logonUI error)
- overwriting system32\RpcRtRemote.dll and USERENV.dll with freshly downloaded copies
Am running out of ideas and would truly appreciate suggestions/directions...
