Solved Long boot time between BIOS screen and Windows

Unusually long boot time between the BOS screen and Windows. It takes about 3 minutes to boot when restarting the PC and up to 5 minutes when starting the PC after it was previously shut down.

I will attach everything I checked, maybe I missed something, including my DxDiag and a video of the issue.

VID 20150213 100529 - YouTube

I already checked the memory by leaving Memtest overnight and it presented 0 errors. This problem started to appear about four months. I'm out of ideas. HDD is new, bought about four months ago and Processor is newer, bought in late November.

Also, maybe worth of noting, everytime I restart the PC the processor completely shuts down the fan before turning it back on. Same when I turn the PC on. I press the button, then it takes about 3-4 seconds for the PC to start running, turning the fans on etc.

Also, I tried disabling the BIOS screen a few months ago, but it didn't do anything, so I turned it back on.

Hello,

Both cards are working and both use the same driver.

Here is what you requested.

I believe one problem is you have many things in Start up.

All I keep in Start up is.

MSCONFIG STARTUP.PNG

I know of no reason why would would have a Tune Up Utility with Windows 7.

Does the Karaoke program need to be running in services.

MSCONFIG SERVICES.PNG

I don't see a anti virus program running.
What security programs do you have?

I use TuneUp because Windows 7 seems to have a bug that noone managed to fix, which is randomly changing icons from one display to another on every startup. TuneUp forces them to stay on the main display.

I will uncheck and see what happens.

LE: Did not solve the problem.

The rest of the world uses Windows 7 without random changing icons without using a Tune Up program. Please explain how your icon are changing and when.

Windows 7 doesn't want or need a tuneup program.

Actually, others have that problem as well, and none of the fixes suggested on these pages worked:

- Desktop icons move- multiple monitors - Microsoft Community

Personally, I have 20 icons on the main display and 2 or 3 on the seocnd display. After a restart the icons are all moved on the second display, still to the left of the screen, but with the others arranged between them. For instance, if I have the 20 icons on the left of the main screen and one of those 3 icons from the second monitor is in the top left corner of the screen, then after restart the icons from the main screen are moved to the second display with the icon from the top left of the second display being dragged beneath the first and second icons from the set of 20.

This happens about 2/3 restarts.

Confusing, I know. Here are before restart and after restart pics.

Anyway, we digress. :P

I looked and I don't see any place but you last post#7 where you mentioned using dual monitors.

So let see if I got it right.

1. You use two mismatch video cards on the same driver.
2. You use two monitors.
3. You didn't answer my question on what security programs you use. Post #4. I see no anti virus program.
4. You use a Tuneup Program
5. You still have all those things in Startup and Services.
6. You use Utorrent

------------------------------------
Is that about right?

Two video cards, both with the same driver (Nvidia released the same for both cards)

Two monitors and a HDTV. TV and main display in GTX, second display in 9600GT

Sorry, I didn't see your question in post 4. Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes

Yes, I use TuneUp

Those things are LastFM which starts with Winamp, uTorrent and Display Fusion, which puts a taskbar on all 3 screens and Microsoft Security Essentials, as well as Windows Updates ready to be installed

Yes I use uTorrent

Tune Up Utilities causes a lot of problems we see here. If you have a System Restore point before you installed it then I'd revert back and avoid it. Otherwise maybe it will let you restore the tweaks it made to see how things perform without them.

Try turning off all msconfig Startups and non-MS Services and reboot to see how long it takes to start.

Another good tool to trace your startup is Soluto to remove unnecessary apps from the boot : Soluto Support

Well as everyone knows I am no expert but I would have liked to see what was in the Start up tab (unless I have missed it) and as for the Tune up app in my view they are crap and tell you what you want to hear and best of all they sound so plausible like for example "your machine has multiple problems etc etc " so I would myself be dumping it.

Just out of interest it would be nice to see a shot of the task manager tabs too especially the Performance and Processes ones, plus what is going on in the Resources Manager.

Hello everyone ! Wow, so many suggestions !

OK, I just turned the PC ojn and took screens of the startup as well as ther task manager, and everything else asked for. Idf I missed anything let me know. I will uninstall TuneUp now.

Doing the trace will require assistance, since it looks a little messy to do alone (read "I dont wanna ruin anything")

Looking into Soluto.

LE: Isn't Soluto for mobiles and tablets ? It says I have to download it from Google Play or App Store.

Could the boot problem be due to the fact that Windows is installed on my HDD, which is 1 TB ?

Soluto 1.3.1323.0 - Download - FileHippo.com works well with PC's, will trace your Startup, provide a link to your PC that when clicked upon will show a map of Startup and suggestions for what to turn off or delay. It will also show all Windows startups so you can see if one of those is delaying Startup and deal with it directly with our help.

Another useful tool (free) is StartupDelayer from iirc R2studios. Ignore the name...it has a tab where you can see virtually everything that started from bootup, and the time it loaded in hh:mm:ss, so for example if this-or-that loaded at such-and-such a time that is many seconds later than the previous, well then one of those two needs to be looked at.

I haven't used it in a long while but recall it was a lifesaver for me to spot a startup item that was slowing my boot times.

Hi, maxseven. Thanks for the suggestion :)

OK, I ran Soluto and this is what came up after a restart.

Will try again in the morning to see how long it takes then> Usually after being shut down for a few hours it takes even longer.
