My current ADSL internet situation is pretty dire and fibre is but a distant hope and likely to be expensive. I am seriously considering getting a sim card wifi router and getting my internet over the mobile network (such as it is). All things being equal, which they rarely are, I am told download speeds over mobile are at least ten times what I am getting here over ADSL/copper. My current speed is more than ample for my needs but it is unreliable and randomly cuts out. There are various contracts I can get from mobile providers that come with various amounts of download limits. I need to find some simple free software to monitor my ADSL on the PC over a couple of months to see which offer to sign up with. My PC runs W7 Pro 64 bit, if that makes any difference.

Google brings up plenty of recommendations but most of them offer too much info that will just confuse rather than inform. Can anybody recommend something simple to give me a total of my daily/weekly/monthly data usage?

Thanks in advance.

In UK mobile routers unlimited is very cheap with 900 meg download best is you can take it on holiday with you. It depends on weather so often speed drops fantasticaly

I have Bitmeter running and so far it says I have used 536mb since May 1st. Looks like my usage will prove costly over a mobile network. Given that I would also have to buy an outside aerial to get any sort of signal to the router my idea doesn't look practical.
