Looking for external blu-ray drive...........

My pc does not have blu-ray functions. I am looking for an external blu-ray drive that will serve two purposes: 1) Watch Blu Ray on my PC. 2) Ability to rip movies to my hard drive. I am confused w/ all the options and speeds, etc. I don't want to spend a ton of $$ and ideally would like to keep it at no more than $100. Is this possible? Any suggestions are appreciated

A quick look at www.newegg.com suggests that you may have trouble finding an external bluray burner near the $100 price. Combo drives can read, but not burn, bluray disks. (They are otherwise DVD-RW drives.)

If you want to rip bluray movies, you'll need to get around the copy protection issues. Slysoft has products useful in that area, but they won't help your $100 budget.

buy the internal 5.25" blu-ray burner and install it in an external enclosure. This will work nicely for you however you might not be able to burn DVD media at 16X speed due to the burst rate being somewhat less than installed internally but you should be able to burn at 12X and that will give you a better quality burn anyways.
