Sure!

I can recommend Microsoft Security Essentials for a lightweight browser. Good security, fast, and does not slow the computer.

For the most lightweight browser out there, try Google Chrome. Blazing fast and tiny.

I have used both of the above programs extensively.

BTW MSE=Microsoft Security Essentials.

Agree on MSE, but I like IE8 as I think they finally got it right with Win7. Best browser I've ever used.

hi !

goldE: PLEASE do a search before you create a new thread !

here you have a couple of threads to take a look at:

AV With the Smallest Footprint

what is the most light antivirus for mini laptop

http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/57934-av-most-ressource-friendly.html

another thread related to the subject, might be of interest:
a-squared uses 620kB memory for realtime protection !

short summary:
Avast uses a lot less then MSE, but a-squared uses less then 1MB when idle in the background & not scanning.

Agree wih reece. I use firefox but every now and then I use google chrome. I would say chrome is lighter, but firefox just has more add-ons which I like. I use Avast and that is pretty light. Malwarebytes is also a light program and a very good anti-spyware program.

google chrome for fastest browser... firefox is what i would recommend for the lightest browser if you are skimping on system resources.

avast and mse take up around the same system resources... i've heard panda cloud uses less... but all of them are fine choices.

NOD 32 version 2.7

Download NOD32 AntiVirus 2.7.39 - FileHippo.com

Very small, yet powerful and fully USER programmable Anti Virus- And ESET has not yet pulled a LAVASOFT by suddenly YANKING definition updates for it!

IE8 - Seems like they got it finally, correct, so I am happy with that. I never liked the idea of installing more than one of a program that has a certain function. Why do I need 15 different Browsers? I don't so I use IE, since it is basically built in to the whole structure of the OS - If Microhard were to REMOVE it, if they were to provide an OS with NO native browser, THEN I'd use FireFocks or Chrome, but I hate those, I think Opera is the best "By Itself" browser: So if I ever need to install an excess browser, Opera it will be, if they still make it or if it has not been absorbed by Symantpoop.

But try out NOD32 2.7 - It doe not take over the whole PC like McNorton does. Fooey!

I finally have an Intel machine that has more than 8GB of Ram.
My ASUS M2N-SE AMD Windows 7 machine is back to Windows 7. Replaced the AMD 4400+ CPU and maxed out the RAM (4GB).
My Core Duo machine is only 2GB of Ram and it is locked to Windows XP in order to run Pro Tools 6.4, which I have been using since 2004.
I have one other Dell OptiPlex 980 tower, Identical to this one,
Chrome takes up about 17000 kb of memory with one theme and Firefox takes up around 22500 with yet only one theme as well.
