Looking to purchase studio headphones, Sony MDR-V6 Studio Monitorgood?

Hey peeps, I'm looking to purchase some studio headphones for Laptop and Ipod use. I'm not trying to spend a lot of money, but i would want something that sounds great for music. I've been looking at a few pages, but i'm not sure if i'm looking at the correct ones, the head phones that have called my attention were the Sony MDR-V6 Studio Monitor Series Stereo Headphones and can be found here: FRYS.com | Sony
I'd like to know your exp. with these if you have owned a pair. I'm looking for clean crisp sounding audio that has no problem picking up low frequency's. I listen to Hip hop/rap, trance, and other types of music. feedback would be appreciated thanks!

I've always been a fan of the Sennheiser HD series

They also will supply replacement chords and even drivers should one go bad.

I actually have a pair of those sony's the bass is hollow and has no punch to it at all. I actually have a 35 dollar plantronics headset that has better sound. The chord tangles easily and the pads started to come apart eventually. ...at least they're apparently cheaper now when I bought mine around 4-5 years ago, they wanted 120 for them. ...oh also I had to cut splice and tape the chord 3 times before I finally retired them.
All of this occurred in about the space of a year.

The HD280's are decent, not quite in the audiophile class, but decent and can be purchased for the same neighborhood in cost.

I also endorse Sennheiser, but I don't use a corded headset. It would probably be a bit awkward when on the move, but mine is a dual circumaural set that is quite comfortable around the house. If I needed something more portable, I would probably still look at Sennheiser first. I really don't believe that there is a good headset that doesn't come with a higher price.

I was looking at soe reviews for the hd280's and i'm not like the fact that the band is cracking on most of the users. =( i've also noticed that some users say it lacks bass. I'm mostly on the go with my laptop/ipod it sucks to want a good pair with a small budget.

Fair enough, I don't personally own the 280's so I can't comment on them specifically.
I can tell you those Sony's were not a good experience for me though. I wasn't exaggerating in the least when I said my 35 dollar Plantronics headset had better sound and bass response.

edit: got to looking again they no longer appear on the parent site. I guess they were discontinued.
Anyhow you could take a look at their portable series, probably more suitable for your needs anyhow.

The HD 428 model appears to be about what you are looking for, they are made for portability and increased bass response, and they are exactly the same price as the sony's.

I'll take a look at that link. as far as going with the 280's or the sony, i'd be going with the sony. this link: Sennheiser HD280 Pro vs. Sony MDR-V6 gives a lot of detail. =)The main reason i'm leaning towards the sony's is because i'm planning to use my ipod and the 280 doesn't seem to like to be used with ipods...

Obviously it's your call in the end, I'm not sure I may still have my old pair around here if I can find them I'll take a picture of them tomorrow so you can see with your own eyes what I'm talking about. They really fell apart. Don't go sony or seenhieser then. I wish I could offer what you would consider a viable option.

I don't mean to push your help away, i have read that the earphones start to wear, but i have read that i can purchase replaceable thingys i dont know what they are called lol.. I'll still be searchin for more info on headphones for my budget. =) help is greatly appreciated. =) thanks!

Headphones (or cans) are a serious audiophile area and you are going to get lots of differing opinions based on who you talk to. Brands that I would suggest looking into include Sennheiser, Grado Labs (this is what I use), AKG, and Beyerdynamics.

Check out a site such as Head-Fi.org - Headphone forums and reviews for audiophiles, for some opinions, reviews, explanation of all of the options that are out there.

I own a pair of HD280 and they are an incredible leap over my old Sony digitals!
As a few reviewers say - they need a week or two to 'wear in' for the bass and I have no problem with sound whatsoever.

Regarding cans "wearing out"
- these are used by disco/rave/nightclub pros (as well as studio/tv sound engineers) who pull them on and off all the time with other rough handling during carriage/packing away - mine don't show any signs of wear after a couple of years!

Amazon UK are selling the 'improved' HD280 which is the HD380 with a touch more bass from the outset.
(£50 reduced offer makes them same price in UK = £100)

If I was buying today I would not hesitate getting the HD380s

I ran into the Grado Prestige Series SR-60i , but need look into them more. I need to look into places that have these type of phones in stock to test out.
