Loosing connection to servershares

Hi!

I'm connecting networkshares from several 2003 servers to my W7-X64 workstation (build 7000). As the workstation is not a domain member I'm using my full domain credentials when mapping.

The shares work fine for a variable span of time (variing from about 30 minutes to several hours or even days), then some(!) simply stop working - I get an "X: is not accessible"-error when trying to use it.

When this happens only some of the shares are affected. Some still work fine with the servers all being in the same physical network.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the mappings then fixes the problem.

I tried different mapping-methods (using MyComputer and NET USE) to no difference.

Any suggestions where to search?

Not a network guy but are there any "Disconnect" type of rules if there hasn't been any activity for a long while - either on the server(s) or client computers.

For example what happens in "Sleep" mode -- do the drives re-connect.

This might be too simple but anything to do with computers its usually the simple (and easiest) things which are often overlooked.

Yes. This works fine. The disconnection happens in mid-work. Without any obvious cause.

hmmmm... this is interesting...... i would first tell you to check your nic cards marc... I'm assuming everything is wired, no? then check cables possibly... only reason why i go to nic and cables first is that the randomness of the failures/dc's. Could be a bad wire or a bad spot on a wire, or nic failing periodically.

so likely hardware related... next would be the router and any other switches/hubs/routers connected on lan. Then we can go from there.
