Solved Lord of The Rings: Battle For Middle-Earth II has problems starting

Hey Windows 7 users and gamers, I was wondering if you could help me out with a problem I'm having with LOTR:BFME2.

When I click on the icon in the computer window it starts to launch the game. It gives me the window with all the options for BFME2 (like "PLAY" or "CHECK FOR UPDATE") but when I click play, it works and works but it comes back with a window saying "The Battle for Middle-Earth 2 has stopped working." Then when I click cancel, another window pops up saying this:

"Runtime Error!

Program: C:\PROGRA~2\ELECTR~1\THEBAT~1\game.dat


This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I am not running this program in any compatibility mode or as an administrator program. I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit computer, 4GB of RAM, an AMD Athlon II X2 255 Processor at 3.1GHz. I also have the latest patch for this game.

If anyone can provide any help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi there Heatmaster78, welcome to Seven Forums!

Ok I have this game too and this never really happens so do the following:

1. Download and install Revo Uninstaller Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems (Check out this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/106594-revo-uninstaller-freeware-uninstall-programs.html on how to uninstall with it).

2. (Make sure your DVD is clean) Insert the disk into your computer and install LOTR:BFME2 again.

3. Update to the latest version BFME 2 1.06 Patch English Download, Lord of the Rings Patches.

4. Make sure the disk is inserted and run the game. Report back your success with this here...

it didnt work for me. when i try to play the bfme 2 campaign. on the very first level when i have to recruit elves to defend rivendell, as soon as i hit the recruit icon it goes to the runtime error. im playing it on my laptop which is an
asus K53V-XR1 with 640GB, and uses windows 7 premium 64 bit. and i did the whole download the uninstaller and i whatched the tutorial and i uninstalled it and reinstalled it and then used the 1.06 patch in the link and yet it happened again. is it the trainer? or what? i have no idea what to do. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i dont know what to do or what to use. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try using a vanilla game, no mods, trainers, cheats ect. But first start over from Step 1 in my previous post again.

where do you get a vanilla game or rather, what is a vanilla game?
and i just did the reinstallation and patching with 1.06. now what?

Vanilla game means a game without any mods, trainers, ect. or in other words, an unmodified game (except from updates and DLC of course).

Did u uninstall with Revo and then re-install?

no, im sorry, i just realised i didn't see your post or my posts so i thought they didnt go through so i kept sending a reply in. wow i feel dumb.

anyway, since im at college right now i cant play the game right now. but when i do get home and i play it the way you told me to and there is no problems during the campaign, what then?
