After a few hours work I gradually lose several links to programs on my desktop.
Sometimes they're back on next startup, but often not...
Is this normal & can something be done to avoid it?
Using W7 Ultimate.
Thanks

Are the icons disappearing completely? If not, are they just losing their associations (links)?

They disappear completely, right now some 25% of the desktop are missing.
I believe it was already like this in beta/RC1.
Maybe some installed software is playing havoc...but how to find out...
Will backup the Desktop folder from now on...

Reset Desktop icon cache ===================
a. Click Start, and open Computer.
b. On the Tool bar, click Organize and choose Folder and Search Options.
c. Click the View tab, and check to select the Show hidden files and folders option, and click OK.
d. Then, enter the following directory:

C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Local

e. Find the IconCache.db file, and rename it as IconCache.db.old.
f. Close the window, and restart the computer.
