Hi

I run a couple of NASs on my network holding media files. One of them has recently started losing some, but not all of it's shares on the network and the actual device is not showing up in Network.

To keep it simple, I have three shares M for music, S for shared files and V for videos. I have lost connection to the M and V shares but the S one remains accessible and visible.

The NAS is a Bufallo Terrastation and I can access the NAS via their utility, one of the options is to browse all shares, which opens an Explorer window, this works and shows all of the shares on the device all of which can be accessed from it.

Any ideas?

The problem may be using a single letter as a sharename, as that could clash with Windows drive letters. Try renaming the shares.

Suddenly realised that the shares that were working were connecting via IP rather than network name. so that explains why some are working and some not.

I've made no changes to my network recently, the box is showing as active in broadband router (DHCP server) but I can't ping it by name only IP.

There are no clashes to map drives, I use the same letters for these shares on all my machines.

Looks like a DNS issue. Try ipconfig /flushdns from a command prompt in a cmd window.

That fixed it. Many thanks
