Lost a large portion of pictures during a copy/paste to my external.

I realize that this may not be the proper section to post this, but I lost a pretty large chunk of my pictures during a copy and paste to my external. They aren't on the external and they aren't on the original computer either, I've searched the hard drive and nothing. I also looked to see if I had any previous versions available for restore but I do not. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

You might see if you may be able to recovery any from the original location using the free program Recuva.
