Sometime in the past couple months or so we lost both our cd/dvd's on one PC. There are little 'error' icons in both 'devices and printers' and 'device manager' menus. I have run sfc/scannow on the subject PC and received error messages-"some corrupted files can not be fixed"...but I can not figure out where to go from here.

The CBS log is attached showing the errors...but I don't know what I'm looking for or what to do next?

Neither device can be accessed at boot as the boot device...and nothing can be accessed on either cd/dvd player from within Windows either ?

thanks...TiminAz

The dreaded sfc can`t fix errors nightmare strikes again, I have compiled a list of updates that cause sfc corruption, you must uninstall them if you have them installed.

As far as your dvd/cd drives, check the power and data cables, but no way should they be loose. But the drives could have just died, both going is rare but who knows.

Updates not to Install

KB2876229 SKYPE

KB2647753
KB2732487
KB2923545
KB2970228
KB2977728
KB2978092
KB2994023
KB3022345
KB3035583
KB2990214
KB3021917

Uninstall these updates if you have them installed, when they pop backup in windows update, right click on them and hide them.

Your settings in Windows update should be set to inform you of updates, but let you choose whether to download and install them.

- Check The Tech Cookbook – Windows 7 update (KB3022345) causing corrupt files if it applies to you, then either uninstall or use the fix.

- Rerun sfc /scannow

- If there are more errors - try uninstalling the KBs AddRAM has written

- Still have corruption post here for experts

For the CD/DVDs:
- Try update driver in device manager for the ones with an error.
- If you can use a different power cable to these, try with that
- Move to another port on the motherboard, another controller (If you have 2) if possible
- Try if only one of them are connected (just remove power), try both devices independently.
