Hi,
I have a problem in that whenever I open windows media center The cursor disappears. It seems as though it is there but invisible, as when I move the mouse around icons will light up and activate if I click on them. the problem has just occurred and was previously okay. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem and could anyone offer some advice on how to rectify the problem.

Cheers....pjan6709

Same problem, no cure (yet).

Until SP1 when M$ may fix this consider using Media Centre on a seperate monitor through S-Video (if you have it) with a remote control.

I have an Emprex 3000 remote, excellent piece of kit.

Alternatively, try this:-

Have you tried turning off pointer trails? I am now using W7 but had the same problem in vista. Turning off pointer trails worked for me in vista.

Hi,
Thanks, Qdos jacee & larry D for your quick response, I did try both and neither worked. However on opening media center this morning I find the cursor had mysteriously reappeared. Windows did an update during the night maybe that did the trick. Anyway, thanks again everyone for your help.
Cheers

See whether hitting the Windows button on your keyboard does anything, it seems to temporarily give me some cursor control - well, sometimes at least!

On my setup I'm using two monitors. I'm going to set Media Centre to run on an S-Video cable and control it uniquely with a remote control handset, but it's a sure indication that we're still BETA testing the OS in truth, eh?

Hi Qdos,
I didn't try hitting the windows button but I will if it happens again. Maybe I did by mistake and that's what's fixed the problem. Thanks again.

Same Problem

My cursor also disappears in Windows Media Center. It does this on my DeskTop and my LapTop. Not so much of a problem on DeskTop becasue it is a touch screen... just annoying. But it is a big problem with La Top. I can not use it! Can someone fix this!

I have tried everything, nothing works. It does come back periodically and then will just disappear again, no idea why. I have now overcome the problem by using a remote control.

I've had this problem on THREE computers, all with different operating systems. I have turned the pointer trails off and tried every other pointer fix. I have also pressed just about every suggested button on my pc while in Media Center and it STILL doesn't work. Since this has happened on every pc I've ever owned (each system progressively better), I have ceased to blame myself, my pcs, my drivers, my hardware, etc. I am blaming Microsoft and the final thing I'm ceasing to do is use Media Center! DONE with it until a definitive answer can be found that works the first time. Doesn't Microsoft read it's own forums?

A) This is not a MS provided forum, at the bottom of every page is:

B) Everyone is not experiencing this issue, so it's not the software, per say.

Most likely, it is a piece of hardware that is typical to all of your installations. Can you think of one?

Top of the line, bleeding edge equipment with no unnecessary hardware, Windows 7, same issue.
I also found that hitting the Windows key gave me back control to some extent.
Turning off the mouse trails seems to work.
Thanks!

Just registerd to post this answer - Have had the same problem - cursor goes missing and random. Could not work it out and tried all the other suggestions. Finally found the answer on another forum - Is the Magnifier program running at the same time. End this program and it works!! Cursor back when in Full screen Media center. Nice one MS!

The other option is to just run MC in windowed mode as this also gives you a cursor if you want to have magnifier running. Hope this helps.:D

Thanks Markodent, Finally nailed the problem!. I tried with the magnifier on, no cursor, switch magnifier off and cursor reappears, amazing. Thank you again for the solution to rectifying this annoying problem.

Cheers, :D

Lost Cursor in Windows Media Center

This is in response to some old posts. I was advised to start a new thread. When I changed my pointer to display a pointer trail, I lost my cursor in Windows Media Center. As soon as I disabled the trails, the cursor came back. Hope this helps anyone who may have thi problem.
