Solved Lost desktop icons??

Hello!

Just discovered this forum... Nice to meet you guys :)

I have the leaked beta installed. Somehow, last night I managed (win+D? Not sure) to hide all my desktop items - shortcuts, system icons, files, and gadgets. Now I can't get them back! The gadgets are still running (I know this because the wallpaper continues to be changed by one), the desktop is empty...

Any ideas?

....duh. And, of course, moments after I wrote this, I right-clicked on the desktop, show desktop icons. Mmmmyeah. But there *is* something different, because I didn't hide them this way...

You probably hit a key combination that toggles the desktop icons hide feature.

I just did some experimenting, and the only way 'documented' to hide the desktop icons is the same way the OP found them again - Right click desktop --> View 00> {show/hide} Desktop icons

However, this can be accomplished also by right clicking the Desktop, then hitting the V key and then the D key.

Interestingly enough, though, when performing this, hiding the icons *also* hides the build info painted on the desktop. And since it is this easy to hide DT icons, I can now start playing with Rocket Dock *Yay*

Thanks - it was quite accidental, cause I wanted to see if I could find a shortcut key for hiding desktop icons - I just happened to be staring right at the corner when I enabled it and saw the version disappear and I was like "Whoa!"

Awesome, I had no idea they were just hidden. I have lost my desktop a few time, always after just rebooting. I think it is a bug in Win 7. Anyway, I just assumed my local profile was corrupt and went through the painful task of rebuilding it. Da.

I tryed your suggestion and Wellla, my desktop is back to normal.


It worked for me. I thought my local profile was corrupt. Don't ask how many times I have rebuilt my profile. I have lost them before, simply by logging off or rebooting. I think it is a bug in Win 7, no sure what caused them to become hidden.
