I know I messed this up hopefuly someone can help:o
MSI Wind 210 Netbook, 250 gig hd, vista (came with it) then upgraded to win7 (2nd boot option)

I deleted the dual boot menu using partition doctor (dumb mistake, dont ask) now all that shows up when I goto boot is:

bootmgr is missing
press any key to restart

pressing a key...

intel undii, pxe-2.1 (build 082)
.
.
reboot and select proper boot device

thats it

It came with restore via the f3 key option on boot , but that shows nothing

Any suggestions on what to try?
TIA

Do you have your windows vista and windows 7 discs?

Repair install should fix the bootmgr that you accidentally removed :)

Boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD, rightlick on Win7 partition to Modify>Set to Active, OK, Apply all steps. http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html

Then from the Disk tab, select Rebuild MBR. Reboot while removing CD to see if WIn7 will start.

If not, Boot Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, accept any offered Repair. If it won't start, boot back in to click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots until Win7 starts. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105541-startup-repair-run-3-separate-times.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

If no installation shows to repair, from the DVD/Repair CD Command Line run bootrec.exe /fixmbr and bootrec.exe /fixboot to see if it will show, then run the 3 repairs.

If Win7 won't start you can copy out your files using DVD or Repair CD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html

Then run your Factory Recovery disks or the Recovery partition itself. You may need to mark it Active first if it won't run from boot by pressing the keys given in the Manual on the Support Downloads webpage for your model.

Or locate a Win7 installer for your version to clean reinstall following these steps: http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/125874-re-install-windows-7-a.html#post1086729

Hello Ork, welcome to Seven Forums!

The easiest way to go about this is to boot the Windows 7 installation DVD and starting at Option Two in the tutorial at the link below, mark the Windows 7 partition as "Active" then run the 3 separate startup repairs discussed in Option One to write a new set of boot files to the Windows 7 partition.

Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

Hello Ork, welcome to Seven Forums!

The easiest way to go about this is to boot the Windows 7 installation DVD and starting at Option Two in the tutorial at the link below, mark the Windows 7 partition as "Active"

(not sure which is the win7 partion)
diskpart list disk shows:
disk 0 online 232 gb 160 free
disk 1 nomedia 0 0free
there is only 1 250 gb hd, which had win xp, win7

then run the 3 separate startup repairs discussed in Option One

i cant get it to boot into windows to run these options shown in option one

to write a new set of boot files to the Windows 7 partition.

Using Partition recovery wizard from Minitool Partition Wizard home I can see:

system label start lba end lba used size size status
NTFS WinRE 2048 16386046 5.12 gb 7.81 gb lost/deleted
NTFS OS_Intall 16386048 108546046 26.04 gb 43.95 gb lost/deleted
NTFS Data 108546048 488395118 41.43 gb 181.13 gb lost/deleted
FAT32 DOS 337059765 488392064 25.80 mb 72.16 gb existing

I didnt change anything here but i looked at the 3rd ntfs and it appears to be my win 7 installation

Any ideas?

You may not need to run Partition Recovery, just repair the System MBR.

Which partition is currently marked Active on the Partition Wizard drive map?

on the drive map that comes up when you boot up minitool partition wizard:
just disk 1 ; only 1 hd (250mb)

partition file system capacity used unused status type
* unallocated 160.72 gb 0b 160.72 none logical
*:dos fat32 72.16 gb 25.80 mb 72.13 gb active primary

what i showed in the last post was when i did a scan using partition recovery.... this is what i saw:
system label start lba end lba used size size status
NTFS WinRE 2048 16386046 5.12 gb 7.81 gb lost/deleted
NTFS OS_Intall 16386048 108546046 26.04 gb 43.95 gb lost/deleted
NTFS Data 108546048 488395118 41.43 gb 181.13 gb lost/deleted
FAT32 DOS 337059765 488392064 25.80 mb 72.16 gb existing

In that case you do need to run Partition Recovery.

Having the lost partitions now marked Unallocated Logical is bothersome since the System Active partition will need to be primary in order to boot. But hopefully PW CD's excellent Recovery app will set it back as it was, unless what caused the loss remains after recovery.

Go ahead with Partition Recovery to see if it will start. If not, check which is marked Active on drive map, try Rubuild MBR from Disk tab.

on the partition recovery wizard i can select up to 3 (it appears) should i just select the 3 ntfs systems or ...? not sure which

Ok, thanks.
I did that and now when I reboot I get:

Intel Undi, pxe-2.1 (build 082)
copyright...
covered by .....

realtek pci....
pxe-ec8: !pxe structure was not found in UNDI driver code segment.
pxe-m0f: exiting pxe rom.

reboot and select proper boot device
or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

Does PW CD now show the partitions restored to the drive map?

Which partition is marked System and/or Active.

Try Rebuild MBR from Disk tab, Apply, reboot.

None were marked active
i made the os_install active, others say status=none
all types are primary

i did a rebuild and the boot menu comes up like it used to but next screen when choosing 7 says there is an error failed to start...recent hardware or softwrae change.

status 0xc0000000e

the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

Does the Win7 partition retain its correct drive letter? Rightclick Explore to see if files are intact.

Next run Rebuild MBR from Disk tab, Apply, reboot.

If it doesn't start, boot into Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD to run Startup Repair up to 3 times to write the System MBR to Win7 partition.

Dont see where the drive letter is viewable. (did shift f-10 in windows repair disk, drive letter look fine)The files do appear intact for 7 and Vista (thought it was xp:))
I'll try the repair console
