Hello all,
In the lefthand section of the desktop lower panel, There were a number of icon shortcuts for opening programs.
"Start", "Windows Internet Explorer", "Windows Explorer", and one that opened up a window allowing to select various items including the pc webcam program. This last icon has disappeared, most likely due to some function I performed (and shouldn't have).
So I could use some assistance in getting this very useful icon back.:o

Thanks marsmimar,
The system restore did the trick. The missing icon is back in place.:geek:

Now here's the thing. The system restore involved only going back one day at which time the Windows 7 update had been preformed. No other actions. So now, I will have to wait to install the updates again and determine if the updates did it or, as I mentioned earlier, if it was something I inadvertently (read "stupidly) did.

Anyway, thanks again for your reply. It fixed it.:D

Concerning the Windows Updates, just something to consider. Depending on how many updates are available, let's say 4 or less, just do one update at a time. Set a restore point, install the update, see if the computer and icon are stable. If yes, do the next update, and so on. If the icon disappears or if the computer starts to act wonky you'll know exactly which update is the culprit.

If you have many updates, consider installing just a few at a time (making sure you have a restore point prior to installing them.) If the icon disappears again you'll be able to narrow it down to those last 3 updates. ;)

It'd probably be easier to just locate the program icon in the Start menu, right click and select "pin to taskbar".
