Ok so I was able to go in and stop the service WMPNetworkSvc. I'm going to try and restart the computers now and see if I have any luck with being able to watch my videos remotely again.

Didn't work after I killed it and restarted the computer. I don't know what to do. I'll try the above programs to kill it and get into the drive's video's....

Update: Still no luck with those above programs. I can't access the My Video's Folder of my External HDD on the zd8000 from my dv1000 via network.

Any other suggestions before I try re formatting the system (which seems like a steep solution)?

Make sure your Antivirus or firewall program isn't blocking access.

Just the default for what Symantec AV set. I get Symantec through school and have been using it for the past 3 years with not 1 problem. Defender is turned off and firewall is on and I believe it's the windows firewall that's running.

Is this not just a permissions problem?

W7 by default requires "complex" passwords and will not allow any user onto any of it's shares that doesn't have one. (and guest is off by defaut I think) so by default it's hard to get other users onto a W7 share typically.

You can lower the requirement to simple passwords on the W7 machine that took ownership of the drive or "upgrade" your password for the user account on the other machine (the min requirement is 8+ characters, at least one number and one puctuation I believe). You may then need to actually add the other machine's user as a user for permissions on that folder before they can access it.

I had some sharing problems till I changed my other user passwords to match the default level of W7.

[Edit]
The permissions will follow the drive (even if the W7 machine is off) but I admit I am not sure about the intricasies of older OSes acessing the permissions on a W7 owned drive/folder...

Ok so I didn't even think about doing this...

I made a new folder in the External HDD "My Video's" and transfered everything from "My Videos" to it... Now everyone can acces that folder and watch the movies I have. My buddy also suggested defragging it, since I haven't since I bought it a year ago... Not thinking I had to defrag an external HDD. Anyways, this seems to work. Thanks for all the help guys. Can always count on the forums! Better than MS tech's that want a million dollars a minute lol

Just go into Network & sharing Center > advanced sharing > turn off "password-protected sharing" then anyone can get to the share.

DV1000 help?

hey any chance you can direct me toward a Windows 7 compatible sound driver for the DV 1000? Windows 7 works great for me, except for the sound. The taskbar says "No Audio Output Device is installed". Thanks!
