Solved Lost USB Support - Sort of.....

I'm in the middle of re-doing an inherited PC. Going along swimmingly. Haven't deleted the original user yet, but I've got my own setup almost complete. Whatever I just did (changed) seems to have killed the USB ports for thumb drives and rotary or SS USB-attached drives. The mouse dongle works fine, as does a BT adapter I just tried. The insertion and removal tones sound, but no action occurs, nor can I see the drives in "My Computer".

They (USB-2 and USB-3 ports) were working properly twenty minutes ago so I'm SURE it's something inadvertent (stupid) that I did. I'm at a loss.

Any (and all) thoughts would be appreciated.

If I understand, it's USB sticks and USB HDDs and SSDs that won't work now?
Can you describe in detail what you did do? Apparently the USB ports still function since the mouse and BT dongle do.

If I knew what I'd done I could probably reverse it. I was tweaking various settings, autoplay being one of them, and it just happened. My problem is that I tend to be in a rush about this stuff and, as now, get in trouble! I can always re-install but that;s a real pain after all the work I've put in. THan ks for any ffurther thoughts.
