i have a sony vaio laptop who was delivered with a windows 7 home prem oa
X16-96072 00196-100-929-817
Some months ago i removed my windows 7 and replaced it by fedora 17.
Because i still have to run Artisteer, lightroom & photoshop, i need at least a windows 7 VM
Where can i download a windows 7 home prem oa so i can reinstall my windows 7 in a VM and activate it with the product key who sticks on my laptop ?
I'll downloades a windows 7 home prem version from the windows community (X17-58997) but it don't accept my product code.

Windows 7 (English) with Service Pack 1
• Windows 7 Home Premium (x86) - X17-58996
• Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) - X17-589974

When i use phone activation,i only can enter the product code but can't change my product id.

How can i change my product ID ?

brgrds, Marc

I just got it!! Uou have an OEM-product key. That OEM key can only be succesfully entered on YOUR hardware. It belongs to the laptop. The VM is actually another machine!

Why not make the system dual boot?

Try the key that is on the COA sticker on your system - for laptops on the bottom and for desktops on the rear.

Neither did I know that - interesting.

Q. Can I install OEM on a virtual machine (VMware)?
A. You may install OEM in a virtual environment as long as you have a separate license for each instance of the software. It is fine to use the OEM version as long as it is properly licensed. To be clear, a separate version of software must be installed for both the “standard” and “virtual” installations.

OEM System Builder Keys work in exactly the same way as Retail Full License Keys - with two exceptions....

1) you can only install using a clean install procedure, if you opt to input the Key during the install. You cannot do an Upgrade install with an OEM Key.
2) the License is locked to the VM - so if you decide to switch from MS VPC to VirtualBox or VMware (or any other swap), you can expect a non-genuine flag!

MS change the EULA in WIndows 7 so that it became possible to install OEM_COA_SLP Keys into VMS - so long as the original OS was wiped, and licensed with an appropriate full license product.
