I originally had a problem similar to the one posted in this thread so I went and tried the fix from that same page. The fix did stop the update failing after the reboot but it apparently broke the rest as it did not clear the data from the system. I am now sitting at around 500 MB of space on the OS drive. I am looking to see if there is any other option other than either a repair reinstall or just a complete format reinstall.

Well I don't have any Windows Update errors I can report. I've ran SURT once. SFC actually won't scan because it's waiting for a windows update to complete, which doesn't seem to go away on restart. The logs actually seemed to have been overwritten as well, so I could post that again.

This appears to be the critical error...

I've seen this exact error before somewhere, I'm sure - I'll try and dig it out later.

Please run the following command in an Elevated Command Prompt, and post the output.

DIR C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\*KB976933*.*

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

It looks to me as if the whole update is corrupted - the file sizes of the .mum files should vary, but all are identical here.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and run the following commands....

dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB976933~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.17514

wait 10 minutes after the second command has completed, then reboot

Now visit Windows Update again, and do another Check for Updates.
DO NOT install SP1 - just install any other update that shows (which should be KB976933).
Then reboot, and run SFC and CheckSUR again - post the results.

I wasn't expecting it - but I'm not too surprised by it.

I'll have to think about this - back later.

AsteriskCGY,

It looks like you may have incorrectly edited the list of driver operations in the registry. Please export this registry key and subkeys to a .reg file, and upload it.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\DriverOperations

Here's the entries from the log that indicate what is happening. At this point no servicing operations will succeed until this is cleared up. (The KB976933 problem Noel is looking at appears to be additional corruption, but may not be related to the current failure.)

Code:

Here ya go. Yea before I had the issue of the reg cleanup not completing, which may be tied to that first one, and then trying that other fix for someone else's problem made things worse.

You need to completely delete this registry key, and then reboot and the uninstall should complete.

Try one more reboot. TrustedInstaller was not set to autostart, so it didn't have a chance to complete the pended operation. It should be ready now.

Code:

Great - now please run the update instructions again, and post the new CBS folder and we'll see if there's any residual damage (Thanks again, Troy6!)
