Low CPU usage while video editing

Just as the title says.
I'm using CyberLink's PowerDirector 14 and while video editing my CPU usage is only about 12% even those trying to view 4K videos can be jittering.
I also noted that some of the cores are 0% usage.
Even during rendering the CPU usage only go to about 18%.
Is there a way to improve this?
I've heard about core parking and saw how to make regedit changes to correct this, but is that a good idea?

Video progs usually take a lot of horsepower, so I'm not sure why this is happening. I would see if there's a forum for Cyberlink support. Meanwhile, you can open Task Manager, find the process, and set both priority and affinity for it. I'm not certain whether the changes will be permanent. There is at least one utility, Prio, which will make priority changes permanent.

Increasing the priority will only make a difference if there were other CPU bound applications running, which there should not be. Setting the priority of a CPU bound process too high is risky as it could starve critical system threads of CPU time.

By default a process will use all CPU cores which is usually what you want. Setting affinity to anything else would restrict the process to some subset of available pcores. Affinity does not in any way reserve CPU cores.

I do no video editing so I no little about this subject but I do have a question.

My understanding is that while doing heavy loads like photo edition a system at default should be using as much cpu and ram as it needs and can get unless someone or some program has changed the default settings?

Is my understanding correct?

its not issue.its depends on the software side we use.no need to think abt the low cpu prob.bcse photo editing taking more functionality depends on wht we choose.cyberlink is getting very good result software for video editing and audio

Setting the priority did make a difference. As I was watching task manager it didn't seem like anything else was using the CPU, I could be wrong. At first I tries above normal, then high. Each setting improved a little bit more. My CPU on high was using 60%.
You mentioned Prio. Are there drawbacks to using this program? I'd first do some more intensive testing to see if any problems arise.

Is your Cyberlink software the full paid version or the "freebie" version bundled with some piece of hardware?

If it's the "freebie" version, then chances are that some of the functionality has been restricted. For example, the bundled software that I got with a BD-ROM drive did not allow surround sound, only 2 channel stereo.

Have you tried any other video editing software? Sony and Adobe have trial versions of their editors that I believe are fully functional during the trial period. Both are also somewhat reasonably priced for the full version. I bought and use both

It is the full version.
I also use GoPro studio and that seems to work OK
If I run a stress test it'll use 100% of the CPU.

I've never used Cyberlink, but in general not all apps are written to use all cores/threads. This can also vary within an app ie some tasks may be only single threaded. That said, I'd expect Cyberlink to be optimised for modern cpus.

Also - is your program set up to use the gpu for processing ? That might explain low cpu % when rendering. Depending on your hardware, a simple test could determine if gpu is faster than cpu.

Although your cpu is 6C/12T, the 6 hyperthreaded cores are not the same as real cores. HT gives about 25% boost - I've tested this with Cinebench, so if some cores are 0% it might not be affecting performance as much as you'd think.

re : reasonably priced Adobe products mentioned by Lava King. Now on a subscription basis, Premiere Pro is about £200 p.a. Not cheap.
