Low mem issues

My great computer has 4 GIGS OF MEMORY... and yet, when I installed Cygwin/X and Eclipse IDE (for android sdk), I keep getting low memory messages. I NEVER get these, and now...

not particularly full, 74.4gb free of 223gb.
I have 4gb of ram, Intel Core Duo T6400 2.0ghz processor.
I have the 64 bit version, if that makes a difference.
Ive removed a ton of background stuff that were running. It ran like a dream for the first six months and recently it has started lagging. It takes a while to start up and sometimes takes 10 minutes to shut down, staying in the "logging off" screen for most of that time.

Ive ran cleaners and registry checkers. Says all is well, but obviously something is wrong.

I do not see a reason so far as to why you would be getting this error.

I would recommend to stay away from using registry cleaners though. They tend to cause more problems than any very little benefit that you might get from them if allowed to clean without manually verifying that each item is safe to delete.

You can try the items listed in below to see if they may be able to help improve your computer's performance. If not, then you might consider doing a clean reinstall.
