Solved Low System Volume with Altec Lansing BXR1121 speakers

I've just re-loaded Win7 and all is well - except. The system sound is very low - all other sounds are okay - I've done everything that I can think of, updated software checked the adjustment for communications, adjusted everything I can think of.

I seem to recall that I had this problem last time I re-loaded windows but, of course, I never documented it, think it had something to do with the actual speakers.

Anyone help?

Is you think it's a problem with your speakers, can you try plugging them into another computer and see if it works?

If it works fine in another computer, it's a problem with your computer and we'll have to resolve it.

Not the speakers

Hi Vinny. No the speakers are fine, were okay b4 I re-installed Windows, work okay on other systems and, except for one respect, work perfectly well on this PC.

The problem is either software or system settings I feel sure. You can google many threads which have a similar problem but there is no clear resolution.

I've got the latest drivers, I've tested - via the speakers option at bottom right - the speakers and the test sounds fine, I've checked the communications tab in the speaker configuration but nothing that I do boosts the system sounds.

This morning I even uninstalled the audio (Realtek) that came with the m/b thinking there might be a clash but still no difference.

Not having system sounds ain't life threatening but it's bloody annoying.

Hello Sikm,

Are you able to uninstall the speaker driver and then re-install it from your manufacture's website?

1. Click start menu and type in Device Manager.
2. Expand Sound, video and came controllers and right-click the listed sound driver.
3. Select uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions.

i'd already done that....

....Vinny. I've uninstalled the realtech drivers and re-installed the latest, no difference, Currently running with the Win7 drivers and all works well......except system sounds! I seem to think that the fix last time might have had something to do with some codecs I downloaded?

First, what do you show in the Device Manager, Sounds section? You should ONLY have the RealTek and possibly an HDMI audio entry (if you have HDMI). If you have any "HD Audio Codec" entries, that indicates generic Windows installed sound drivers (either for the PC sound or HDMI sound). If you have any HD Audio Codec entries, uninstall them in the Device Manager and restart Windows. Check the Device Manager, Sound section after the reboot to see what you have.

Best option would be to post a screenshot of that Device Manager section.

Solved!

After all it WAS something very simple.

I downloaded the latest version of Realtek HD Audio Drivers and installed it - again. Then, using the Realtek Audio Manager I selected speakers and the Sound Effects tab. On that page there is a check box that you could easily miss labelled 'Loudness Equalization', check the box and Lo, system sounds are now as they should be.
