Low Virtual Memory Win 7 causes freeze

My PCs has been crashing nearly everyday and it started to happen just before xmas.
I recently called the manufacture and they replaced the Motherboard and memory but the issue still persist.

This morning I went to do a System restore hoping it would help and then I got to the PC I was finally able to catch the error message "Your computer is low on memory, To restore enough memory for programs to work correctly. Save your files etc..." The computer had been left on overnight with no programs running. I have 5 PC in the house and 3 of which are crashing with the same error, all running Windows 7 32bit and Office 2007.

I when into event viewer and managed to pull up the below information, (pictures attached) Taken after the error message.

I done some research and suspect its a memory leak as the PCs have 2GB of RAM and the VM is locked at 4GB. If I run Process Explorer would I be able to tell straight away if a memory leak was to happen i.e. would the Private Bytes value increase? Or would the Virtual Size increase?

Thanks

I would run Malwarebytes Anti Malware and Super Anti Spyware to make sure your clean. Also run a scan with your Anti Virus. Make sure all are updated before you scan. More ram also would help.

Maguscreed, I don't think is a VM or RAM issue, I believe it may be a memory leak. I say this before looking at the Event log if you totall the bytes allocated its adds up to 160MB which is under the 2GB I have installed on the machine with a extra 4GB on the VM.

If that's the case a simple system clean up is probably in order.
It would be so much easier if I had a actual crash dump to work from here.
Virtual memory errors can be caused by just about anything though.
It could be as simple as bad registry entries.
You could always try remaking the pagefile and increasing it's size.
This could just be some sort of issue with the pagefile itself. Manually adjusting it, should force the system to 'remake' the page file which may solve the problem in and of itself.

Before I go ahead with the page file I'm sure the system will crash and again and display the error message, in which case how do I go by creating a dump file. If you could advice me, then I can post it on here on the next crash.

Thanks

I know a few ways of forcing a crash, but that would just give a error for the trick used to cause it.
Honestly I don't think this is driver related, my best suggestion is to just manually increase the pagefile right now. I have my own set for a range of 300mb to 6.1gb.

It never uses all of it obviously but it seems to run better when you blow it up beyond it's need.

Thats fine, I'll increase the Page file size, I'll let it to automatic, this way windows can do the sizeing :D

If the system does freeze up again and I have to to a manual reboot, where would I get the dump file from which caused the freeze?

Thanks

This morning I changed the page file to be set by automatic.

This afternoon while working on the PC the same Windows message came up saying that it was out of VM please save and close down etc...

I only had a few min and managed to run a few tools to records what was going on. I found out that Commit Charge is 5.7GB and is continues to grow. Bur then the Physical memory is 1.5GB. (Pictures attached)

When I run Process Explorer and sorted the data nothing seems to stand out to suggest it could be a memory leak. (Picture attached)

I'm missing something out?

Don't get me wrong when I look at an AV as a issue I'm not saying it's bad just because it's there. I have just seen a lot of instances of third party security giving problems in windows 7. 90% of the time they are fine and don't cause issues, but about 10% of the time they can cause anything from minor inconvenience to major BSOD's. It doesn't seem limited to any specific AV or system configuration. I've yet to see anyone nail down what's going on with win7 and third party AV's.

..anyhow, it never hurts disable it and see if the problem resolves. It's an easy fix if so since you can get microsoft security essentials for free now. ...I guess what I'm driving at, is it's status on your other machine doesn't even apply, as the AV issues seem very unpredictable.

Moving on...
Have you tried cleaning your startup using Msconfig?
Just trimming down on background applications that run automatically may help. Not too mention 90% of them still function fine if they are only started when needed instead of running at every boot.

I've done a msconfig and trimmed down everything to the bare essentials.

Is there any way of noteing which program or file causes this error OR which program is raising up the commit charge to 5gb as the picture above?

Could it be a driver issue?

p.s. really appreciate your help.

Yes something is way off there I've never hit a commit charge that high, even when actively running a high requirement game or during conversion.

Something is not right but without a crash dump file there's not much I can do to narrow it down. Just going from what little you can convey online doesn't help a lot. Perhaps following the dump instructions in the link under my posts will help somewhat. While you have no minidump files it will still allow me to look at event logs and basic system info. ..no promise that will help but we do have quite a few people here that are really good at reading between the lines in dumps and info files.

Hi Golden,

I've had a look at event viewer and could not find anything, what I found was when the message was displayed on the screen I traced the time on the VM message and looked to find anything on the application list. The only log I could be was a Outlook issue which if I can remember was only a warning. But this was few min before the VM message appeared on the screen.
