Low WEI score due to primary disk, any help?

Hello all

In running my test I get between 7.3 & 7.5 on all other stuff, but for my primary disk I get 5.9.

My primary disk is (2) 10,000 Raptors running in RAID 0.

I have defragmented it using O&O's complete performance method (got the same before this was even installed btw), it is only using 62 of the 277 gigs it has and I am using all the drivers for it via the manufactures install disk. Also it has the write cache enabled.

So does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get this drive to give me a better score?

Also btw I get a result of 84mb/s read and 106 mb/s write from a HD testing program called RexTest.

Note: if you want to see my other systems spec's, I have as listed all of the equipment I can in my profiles systems spec area.

Most likely the only way you will improve that score would be to use an SSD as your primary drive.

Why does it matter? Is your system performance such that it's impeding your ability to use it? I.E. are you sitting for long periods of time waiting for screen refresh or are your games sluggish? If not, I'd suggest that you ignore the "score" and just enjoy using your system!

BTW ... I say this after years and years [and years] of worrying about such matters. It can be fun to tune and tweak a machine but after awhile you just start judging your machine based on what you can do with it rather than how it measures up to the "benchmarks".

Of course, you want your machine to perform optimally if there's something you can do to make it so within reason, however don't get fixated on that score. It's not an objective view of your system's performance in your scenario. Only you can determine that.

Remember, there's lies, damn lies and benchmark tests!

A hard drive is never going to have a WEI score in the 7's. MS designed WEI this way. If your system is running smoothly, forget WEI. It is an indicator from MS's point of view and nothing else. You are concerned over nothing.

Correction: HDD's will never have a WEI score in the 7's ..... (spinning drives)

The SSD Hard drives reach into the 7's... this is the only way to 7 wei...

It also means that since all your other stats are high up, the bottleneck is your HD's...while fast, they wont reach the speeds of an SSD.

Look through this thread and post your wei there. this is the main place to post WEI scores. You'll notice many all 7's comps there.

Edit: I agree with Carl's post, ("forget WEI").. You have a nice system. dont let the 5.9 get you down. (I have 5.9 also because of HDD would otherwise have a 6.3)

But: if you want to upgrade in the future, a SSD for your OS and programs will be a very noticable performance boost.

Certainly no offense taken. I am glad you clarified it for the OP. I just wanted him to understand that 5.9 is a fine score for an HDD.

Actually, I've seen a couple of 6.0 and 6.1's supposedly legit and RTM versions of RAIDED and single mechanical HDD's in the WEI thread.

Very rare though and if it they were legit, more than likely a glitch element to the WEI assessment.

I wouldn't be too fussed with the WEI score though.

I'd have a 7.7 easy with a SSD, but I'm not fussed enough to warrant such expenditure.

Do you really care what Microsoft rates your system at?
As stated earlier its what you rate your system at, you did not build it for microsoft but for yourself to enjoy.
If it runs the way you want it to then it is rated as 10/10 by your standards and that is what counts.
I don't think I have ever seen what my WEI is and don't care what Microsoft think of my computer
