I don't know, maybe if you tell us why you want to do this we can suggest a workaround.

If you use your lpt1: in your host system, I suggest sharing it so that your windows98 virtual system can then connect to the shared printer. I have windows98 and dos 6.22 and windows 3.11 all connected to my shared printers on my w7 host system.

Have you tried to install the printer and select lpt1:??

I have lpt1 available on my windows98 and other virtual machines and it appears to work fine.
I also can use a tcp/ip connected printer.

YMMV
