Good article. I always enjoy the PC vs Mac debate - a market is always better with competitors rather than one outstanding & dominant force, keeps everyone on their toes.

Thanks for the link, although I think the article was a bit bland. Basically stated everything most computer enthusiasts already know. I think this article would be perfect for my parents since they know nothing about computers :) :)

People claim Macs are virus proof. It's untrue, people are probably attacking the PC because it holds the largest market share. Besides, Mac is based off Linux, I'd rather run Ubuntu than a Mac.

Most people would not agree with that though. The appeal of the MAC is that with limited hardware and very controlled hardware...they typically more or less just work and run. Sure, they have hardware failures like everything else...but with far fewer options...it's much easier to ensure that everything is going to work. And generally speaking, although expensive, the hardware is of a pretty decent to high quality.

But expensive, and very controlling, seriously, Ubuntu is a better alternative in my view. My rig costs about $600-800 but is a beast, large Macs with the huge screen at my school, costs around $1200 each. Yet they are so much slower. Don't you think something is wrong?

I said they were more expensive we all know that. But take 10 random PC based laptops and then install Ubuntu on them and see what works 100% correctly. Now, take 10 random MAC's and install OSX and see what works 100% correctly. I think there are alot of people who will spend more for that large screen (which is very nice) and for OSX which will likely just work for them....even if it might be a bit slower than a PC at the exact same price.

If you didn't already know this.....I'm a Linux admin for a living and run a ton of Linux boxes (CentOS, RHEL and Ubuntu). I'm very aware of the benefits of Linux...but I'm also of the opinion that they aren't a universal good fit for everything. I'm sorry my explanation bored you and put you to sleep...but these are somewhat complex matters and they take some thought. The "whatever" response doesn't hold much water.

Yes, I understand, what's keeping me from switching is Linux unable to support today's games,m also, I like the choice of software available for Windows. Also, Windows is fun.

Yes, that's a pretty common reason and a good one.

m also, I like the choice of software available for Windows.
There is also a whole lot of great software out there for Linux.

Also, Windows is fun.
Linux can be fun too. In fact, I often like the fact that for free I can usually do as much if not more. Sure, there is some more configuration...but not that many people can make it happen in the Linux world and I enjoy having an option when it comes to which is a best fit for a given situation.

I felt the article was filled with fluff and erroneous info and I would not take it seriously. The most obvious mistake is the picture of the IBM PCjr with it's bootup screen labeled as "MS Windows". The PCjr was an 8088 based computer with a single 360K floppy and no HDD that was a DOS only machine that could never run ANY version of Windows!

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
I have used every version of Windows produced from 3.1 to XP, then I spent 10 years in the Mac world. About a year ago, the last Mac I had died after running more or less flawlessly for 5 years. I then bought the best system I could afford. I had $350 in the bank at that time, it wasn't a Mac I bought.

I came back to the Windows world through Windows Vista, because I had the choice of buying a machine with Windows, or going without. (Yes, I know that Linux is free, but i could not have bought the same horsepower I did with no OS. Also with the iMac dead, I had no way of downloading Linux. I had to get something I could turn on and use. As for Linux, as soon as Photoshop runs on Linux, I will probably switch to Ubuntu.) Going without was NOT an option.

Last week I upgraded to Windows 7.

I found Vista to be an improvement over what i remembered with XP but overall a big MEH!

So far, I am mostly liking Windows 7. I haven't had any real issues with it, but also haven't had time to really use it and get to know it.

The one thing I miss more than anything else, iLife. I wish that either Apple made iLife for Windows, or there was an alternative that did the same thing. If there is I haven't found it yet. I have been able to find individual apps that do the same things, but it was nice to get everything in one package.

The whole Windows vs Mac thing is so old hat as to be laughable. It really doesn't matter anymore, and I'm not even sure it mattered then. Use what works for you and you like. If your able to get the work and/or enjoyment done,... that's all that matters.

So this guy, Kelly Ford

Ah yes, Kelly Ford - If they actually got paid for that 'report', I hope they weren't paid very much. It's a load of bollocks.

According to to a lot of the 'findings' , I should be a Mac user.

Talk about erroneous generalization and stereotyping
