Macrium Problem

I have just started using Macrium Reflect Free Version. I am backing up my Documents every night. It appears what is happening is I am getting a new backup every night instead of overwriting what is there. The result is that my backup space is full. How can I get Macrium to overwrite what is there instead of adding a new backup everynight? Thanks.

You need the Pro edition to make differential backups. Free Macrium will write a new full image evry time (which I personally prefer given the low prices for disks these days).
You may want to try the native Windows7 imaging. They always overwrite the previous image. It is a bit more difficult to use than Macrium, but I am sure you can figure it out.

I also do not mind a complete backup everytime, but it is not removing the previous backup and filling up my backup drive. How do you handle this?

I delete the older images from time to time - by hand. I use 250GB and 640GB drives dedicated to the images. So there is a lot of room. My images are about 10GBs for the system and about the same for my data. But I do not always image both at the same time since the changes on those do not occur at the same time. Only the OS is imaged daily..

I appreciate your help on this. One final question (hopefully). How do you delete the older images?

I think- check the listing on yours- you will show multiple copies where I show one in the picture. Right click and then click delete on ones to remove.
Check by dates for the oldest ones.
You can also just right click to see your options of course.

As you can see my one has no date. I oopsed there.
I just keep the one good one. I have a Win Sys Image also.

To delete an image just use Windows Explorer and go to the folder where they are stored and delete the ones you want. I always verify my new image before deleting the old ones.

I saw the delete from explore but wasn't sure it would delete file or just delete the connection to the file.

I think Jim answered the question (I was out shopping for a while). Just be aware that sometimes, if you delete a whole bunch at once, that may be too much volume for your Recycle bin due to the massive size of the images. In that case the system will tell you that it will delete them directly. That is perfectly OK, but you must be sure that you picked the right ones.

Just another little tip. If you want to delete any of the XML definition files, don't do it via the Macrium controls, but go directly to the "Reflect" folder in My Documents. That is the better way to do it for a variety of reasons.
