Macrium users: have you tried an image restore??

Hugh:

Since my last post in this thread, I booted from my Macrium rescue disk and was able to select the image file I made a few weeks ago. I went as far as I could in that Linux environment without clicking the final button that would have actually begun a restore.

All looked OK to that point.

You can't be sure without going beyond that point, which I did not want to do because all is currently well on my PC.

If I get in an otherwise insoluble jam that system restore cannot resolve, I would boot from that disc and actually attempt the restore and then hope it works.

That's about all you can do--you can't "test" it without restoring and I am not about to risk a working system to satisfy my curiosity.

I have made an Acronis image as well to give me another fallback position.

IC...glad to hear that it works. It was post #2 and #3 that got me worried.

But then again, I'm also worried that my Acronis images won't work when needed. I've seen people post that the system restore sometimes fails.

FyrmanJ: I am guessing your situation is different because of dual boot? Are you unable to restore Win 7 from Win 7 or have you tried?

I have not tried to restore win7 from win7, but I have tried using the macrium boot disc I made up to just before you commit to do the actual restore. The boot disc worked up to that point as I didn't want to do the actual restore.
