Solved Macrium verification fails

[PSCO2007]

I used Macrium to create an image on an external hdd (Passport) and the verification was fine.

This is for a laptop.

I then created a second image on an internal hdd connected by adapter to laptop and the verification process failed, even though I can open the image and everything seems to be there.

I tried this process 3 times and always get "verify failed."

I have done this in the past and it was always OK.

Any advice?

I can't recall details, but I've read that "verification" doesn't guarantee much--a "verified" image may or may not restore.

So I'm not too sure I'd get excited about it. All I can suggest is to look at Macrium forums.

In this case subsequent images were made and verified ok.

If repeated image attempts fail as in your case I'd be running full diagnostics on the HDD you are attempting to store the image on.

Thanks - that was the first thing I did.

I've never had this happen and I WON"T rely on an unverified image - I just prefer to have a copy on the internal hdd as well as the external I used.

The link you gave says image failed - that's not my case - just verification.

BTW - I have 2 old images on that hdd and verification was fine.

I'm running a chkdsk now - after it completes, I'll try another image.

Chkdsk has completed (green line filled) but no other mentions.

It has been sitting like this for a half-hour.

Can I assume it is successful -I hate to press cancel at this point if it is not completed.

Well I guess the chkdsk did something, because I ran another image and not only did it complete it in 7 minutes, but it successfully verified it.

Personally, I've found pointing MR to external drives, as part of creating image backups, often fails verification. I tried several different drives, and several different adapters, and the results were consistently bad.

What worked better was doing the following:
1) Making a backup to a partition on an internal drive
2) Copying the backup to an external drive after it was done.

Using this approach, I've never encountered a verification failure.

As I said, the backups to the externals passed verification.

I prefer to have a backup on an internal hdd and that one was the one that failed.

After running chkdsk on that one, the process completed successfully.
