Windows 7 is unable to run a MagicJack. When installing the driver it is recognized under the heading of "software and games" of which it is neither. Sure wish Windows 7 was smart enough and had a category for "internet telephone service".

No I did not as I did not want to run another version of Windows that chews up more resources although if I have to I will. I am looking at it right now but the other option is to wait for Magicjack to create a compatible driver or run a older computer of mine for the use of the Magicjack. I love Windows 7 but I just wanted this out there so Microsoft might see it and make a change as I hate seeing a OS not recognize hardware correctly ... then again it may be all Magicjacks' problem. I am not sure but Microsoft wants feedback so I am trying to feed them some. The Magicjack has large sales numbers so it is not like it is a unknown entity and so Microsoft should be aware of it. Just my opinion.

I think he meant tryinstalling the software in XP compatibility mode (Right click the program icon and select properties and compatibility mode)

Do it for the driver install (uninstall current one first) and then set that for any programs you have to run to use the functionality of the device.

Did it work on vista? Or were you using it on XP previously?

What he means is right click your exe file, go to properties>compatibility and then set to Windows XP or Vista mode, this will install/run the program and run it as it would in XP/Vista.

Don't always work but it does for some things, certainly worth a shot.

I am using it on another XP Pro OS computer and it is working fine. I am sorry about some confusion on my part. I thought I had to install Virtual PC and XP mode. I tried the driver using the various compatibility environments offered on Windows 7 but I still could not get the program to open. My guess is something is preventing it from establishing a path to the internet. ( My firewalls are disabled.) The program starts to open as the device is recognized but stalls at the point where the internet connection is made. In XP Pro the program splashscreen is displayed when the device is plugged in and dissappears when it is removed. In Windows 7 it is appearing when the device is inserted but it does not dissappear when the device is removed. I need to go to the task manager and end the process. I tried the recommended enviroment as well as many others but I was still unable to get it to go. I reported the problem to Microsoft and it said it was sending a report about a incompatible device. Thanks!
