Solved Magnify.exe - Application Error (0x000007b)

I'm getting this error below on Windows 7 64bit.

Magnify.exe - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application

It all started when I copied my OS partition, cloned the entire OS HDD and moved it to a other drive then back again to the first drive after resizing it.

Everything else works, no other errors for anything else, but it seems this little thing is broken, it's amazing out of all the things I use... it's such a tiny thing.

I tried to extract a uncorrupted version of the .exe from my retail disk, but that didn't work.

I can't do a system restore, since there are no backups. Looking on Google for resolutions have failed, but looking up the error code itself, could be a problem with .NET Framework?

I'm getting the feeling, that the only way to fix this is to reinstall the OS.

Any help would be most welcome.

You might see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to help fix that system file.

Yes, did that as well, it found errors, but couldn't fix any.

Sometimes you may need to run the scan a few times to fix all errors.

Could you post the created sfcdetails.txt file from OPTION THREE in that tutorial? I'll be happy to take a look at it to see what all it couldn't fix and post back with it.

Ah~! The old run three times trick. Will try that again.

Looking through it, seems it can't repair Magnification.dll!

So I guess I just need a new copy of that file.

So trying to copy the .dll over to System32 it's giving me the error, permission denied. I believe I need to grant myself permission to do this, but everytime I do, I get more permission denied errors.

What's a good way to solve that?

Once you have a clean copy of the Magnification.dll file and unblocked it using the tutorial below from say your Windows 7 installation disc, you would need to use the yellow TIP box at the bottom of the same tutorial below on the original file, then copy the new one into the System32 folder.

I installed the take ownership registry file the same night that I made this topic and installed it, but when I went to use it on the file, it wouldn't work, well after doing a reboot today, it allows me to take ownership of the files in System32.

Should had known I needed to reboot first, but it does work on files outside of \Windows before rebooting.

So after a clean reboot, I was able to delete the old Magnification.dll file and replace it with a clean version which has fixed the problem! I can now use Magnify again.

I still couldn't get gain right permissions to the file by editing my user permissions, still kept getting denied messages, but that's not a problem now that I fixed this.

Thank you Brink for the help! Know coming here was the right thing to do.
