Hi

I am trying to add an email manually using the Mail (32 bit) icon in Control Panel. The icon appears normal, as opposed to the blank icons some other users might have faced. When i click on it the cursor turns to a circle for a few seconds and then nothing happens.

I cannot add an email account manually through Outlook (2013), it just wont let me.

Thank you.

Hi dhr. welcome to the Forum.

I just checked my Mail in Control Panel & it wont work either. Perhaps a recent Windows Update has caused a problem with it.

But you should be able to add an email account through Outlook 2013. What is stopping you from doing that, can you supply more information.

Hi Ranger4,

Thank you for your reply. The email I am attempting to add is a work specific webmail service that includes certain manual tweaks including access to a https based server. I tried adding this manually through Outlook 2013 but it wont let me. The error message is that I am unable to manually configure an email account whilst Outlook is still running.

Thanks.

Sorry this is well out of my expertise, when it comes to a work specific web mail service.

Have you asked for help at work, there should be someone there that knows what to do.

I think the issue here is my inability to access the Mail icon in my Control Panel. If I can figure out a way to make that work I can go ahead and configure this mail account.

Have a look at this website as there seems to be a solution there. However, it does require a Registry edit, so it would be a good idea to back up the Registry first. Where the edit mentions version 14 you would need to substitute that to 15 if you are using Office 2013. Version 14 is Office 2010 & 15 is Office 2013.

@ dhr. That solution does not work, so don't bother trying it.

It seems that the June Update of Office 2013 caused the Mail Applet to stop working. This MS website will confirm that for you.

Outlook 2013 mail icon in control panel not opening - Microsoft Community

Just to save you a problem, I tried both the suggested repair options suggested on that page & neither worked. Of course if you wish to try it then, good luck.

@Ranger4. I think I have resolved this issue. The Microsoft Community link that you provided pointed to a way to launch the profile pop-up in Outlook 2013 and I have managed to add a new profile and configure the email server manually. This seemed to have worked, thank you.

Thanks for getting back. Glad to hear that one of the options worked for you. Did you use the Outlook.exe /profiles alternative that was mentioned in one of the MS link that I supplied?.

What is required for setting up a new profile & does it take a lot of fiddling around.

@Ranger4. I sure did, ran it in the command window and pop up appeared asking me to choose the Outlook profile I wanted or add a new one. I simply named a new profile and proceeded to configure it manually using the exchanger server, proxies and SSL details that I had already been provided. It asked for my username and password repeatedly for some reason but that didn't stop the configuration process.
