Mail gadet that really works!

Why is it so hard to find a working reliable mail gadget???!!! None of the ones I've found were accurate and of much use. When I had my XP machine I used PodXP and it had the best mail module you can imagine! I tried to download the program in 7 but it wouldn't work properly and unfortunately the creator isn't updating it for 7. I tried to download Yahoo widgets but that hasn't been updated for 7 either, what's wrong with Yahoo??!! Anyone here have a good mail checker they could share?

I use Outlook 2007, and use the Outlook Info gadget to notify me of mail. Some folks here have tried and like this:

Completely new core unit, attachment and priority handling added, several small improvements. Temporary fix for SSL problem with new Core unit. Completely new core will be published again in future releases, if you don't need SSL I recommend to use 3.5.0.0 version.
