Dont know where to put this, but I thought people should be aware of it! especally if they have kids who use P2P software ect!

American Internet users, get ready for three strikes "six strikes." Major US Internet providers—including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, Cablevision, and Time Warner Cable—have just signed on to a voluntary agreement with the movie and music businesses to crack down on online copyright infringers. But they will protect subscriber privacy and they won't filter or monitor their own networks for infringement. And after the sixth "strike," you won't necessarily be "out."

Personally, I never use P2P for obtaining videos...or for that matter, much of anything else, because I don't trust them. Still, I'm glad to see that my ISP is not among those named in that article. If I were so minded to download videos, etc. via P2P, it seems that this issue could be side-stepped by using an anonymous proxy.

That's one of the main reasons that certain agencies/organisations (Corporate and Government) are pushing it so hard.

They don't like the fact that we have the freedom to do to them, that which they've always done to us.

This is why the main stream media has always been very vague about exactly what the cloud was when they were "conditioning" the general public to accept it, I remember back over several years ago when CNBC kept mentioning the cloud but not actually explaining what it meant...being somewhat intelligent I just thought this was strange my reaction was "am I slow, or are they really being completely undescriptive about this "cloud"? Of course now I know that essentially the "cloud" essentially places all data in THEIR hands and it also allows THEM to grant and deny access at their whim.

I say death to their "cloud". Love live the PC as we know it. Where the data stays in OUR hands and we have control over it.

I had no premonitions about Cloud, and only became aware of it recently, but if it goes as some here believe, it won't surprise me, because it has always been clear to me that the internet would have to change radically, and very soon, for the Mark Of The Beast prophecy to be fulfilled. No one will be able to buy or sell anything without it's mark, and for that to happen, the internet would require a choke chain.

I'm glad to see a crackdown on copyright infringement and the like. Hopefully this will cover stuff like operating systems and other software, rather than just music and videos. A torrent found OS is just asking for trouble.

Agreed, it's good to see they are finally getting after pirates, but I don't see how they will be allowed to disable their ability to dial 911 or other medical/emergency related services upon the sixth offense. Isn't that going against the First Amendment?

Fifth Offense:

ISPs are not obligated to impose any Mitigation Measure which would disable or be reasonably likely to disable the subscribers voice telephone service (including the ability to call 911), e-mail account, or any security or health service (such as home security or medical monitoring).

Sixth Offense:

Whether or not the ISP has previously waived the Mitigation Measure, if the subscribers account again appears to have been used for content theft, the ISP will send another alert and will implement a Mitigation Measure as described above. As described above, it's likely that very few subscribers who after having received multiple alerts, will persist (or allow others to persist) in the content theft.

Actually, it looks like they will on the sixth offense.

They're not the only ones.
Corporations (and their lobby groups) have way too much power (in general).

They have so much power that the Government/politicians are scared of them.
Just look at the Phone Hacking scandal in the UK.

In Australia, the Government proposed increasing taxes on the mining companies.
The mining companies spent millions on anti-Government ads and threatened to close their mines.
IMO, that is basically "Economic Terrorism" (OBL wanted to crash the World economy, particularly the US).
If I was in charge, they wouldn't have known what hit them. :devil:

I'm always amused/outraged (when I read another forum - I call it the "computer flame blog") by the number of people (mainly from the US) who believe that corporations should be allowed to do ANYTHING THEY LIKE (i.e. they should be completely unregulated).

These same people throw massive tantrums whenever the Government tries to act the same way.
At least you can recycle/replace the idiots-in-charge of the Government (every few years).

Please note the bold. As described above refers to throttling and landing pages, etc.

This will do very little to combat the issue of copyright infringement, it'll potentially hurt the wrong people. For example this idea is about regulating it within the USA, however none of that does anything to deal with the major violators of copyright infringement, China, Iraq, Malaysia, Thailand, etc. There are many countries who were able to create entire businesses based around bootlegged material, and none of what's proposed can/will deal with that.

esxactly - the places where they outsource the work to are the ones ripping them off hand over foot thousands of times over - that's where the real pirating/bootlegging occurs.
