When installing Windows 78 I'll get to the final step and I'll be greeted with an error that reads:
"windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware"

I'm sure some of you have heard of this problem before, anybody know how to fix it?

Btw before I used this I had an HP running on windows XP....Oh, and my specs are fine.

What are they and what version of Win 7 are you installing, 32 or 64 bit? Also where did your copy of Win 7 come from? Is it a download or have you the disk?

Verify the disk against the ISO using ImgBurn. First load ISO, make sure it says "bootable" in text at left, then Verify DVD. If necessary, burn another DVD using Imgburn at 4x speed with Verify.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version update.

Reset the CMOS in BIOS: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/tp/clearcmos.htm

Check your SATA controller setting in BIOS. Try AHCI first, then IDE if necessary.

Remove all but 2 gb of RAM for install. Test ram using Memtest86 - Download Page bootable CD. Swap RAM.

Test HD using maker's diagnostics/repair CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.
