Major problems with iTunes Installation!

Pardon me if this issue has been addressed already, but I am at my wits end here. I have been going 'round and 'round with trying to get iTunes installed on my Win 7 PC to no avail! I keep getting multiple and persistent errors no matter what I do. The installation errors usually say that I don't have access or rights to certain registry keys. I have hunted down those keys in the registry and changed the permissions on them, only to have a new problem key present itself, and this process seems NEVER ENDING! I have tried un-installing all of the various components from the BLOATED iTunes program, like the Bonjour Service and support for Apple devices and attempted a re-install, again to no avail. I just want to be able to watch m4v videos. QuickTime Alternative will not work. Media Player Classic will not work. Changing the m4v extension to mp4 will not work. HELLLLLLLLLLLP!!!

Thanks, but...

Thanks for your response and the link. I have downloaded and installed Media Player Classic Home Cinema. I have updated my DivX codecs and installed the latest 64-bit K-Lite codec package. However, I am still unable to view the m4v video in any media player. And I still cannot install iTunes. Any other suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

The faster you run from itunes the happier you'll be......imo. Please look at a far tighter solution MediaMonkey available as a free download. You will soon be flying through your collection and way happier than itunes.

You don't need any codecs. And what happens when you try to run the video?

If I try to run the m4v video in Windows Media Player, WMP opens but just sits there, blank. If I try to run the video in Media Player Classic the same thing happens- the program opens but does not play the movie. I even downloaded and installed the latest 64-bit version of VLC, and when I try to play the m4v in that program I get an error message, something about pins and missing codecs. I think that iTunes has really screwed something up on my system but I am having trouble setting things to right.

Correct me if I am wrong, but MediaMonkey seems to be an audio player, and I want to play an m4v video, which is Apple's proprietary container format for audio/video.

Where are these m4v videos coming from?

You can always try remuxing the videos to another container such as mp4, mkv, mov and/or hdmov, though I see no reason why m4v shouldn't work in MPC-HC, except the fact you're using K-Lite :/

I thought of that too, but m4v is DRM protected, and the media converter program that I have been using (Danusoft Media Converter Ultimate) to convert one video format to another won't convert m4v to anything else unless it can play the video in order to make a copy. And guess what it uses to play the video? iTunes! Which has a corrupt installation on my machine! So it's 'round and 'round I go! A catch-22 situation. I can't play m4v files without iTunes, and iTunes won't install properly on my PC.

That's exactly why I refuse to touch any of that Apple cr*p stuff

It probably works great in connection with a Mac but isn't too cool between 2 worlds

If you need iTunes I would say uninstall it (Revo uninstaller), clean leftovers (Ccleaner)
Download the latest copy and try that again only THIS Time don't change any permissions but run the installer with admin rights.

Even if its DRM you may still be able to remux the streams into another container. Not sure, though.
Just a sidenote, remuxing isn't the same thing as converting/re-encoding streams.

Download and install mkvtoolnix and follow this old attachment I uploaded for another thread some time ago:

(Ignore the append option unless you have several video files of the same resolution, audio and video properties that you want to combine).

OK, so while everyone has ignored the issue. Let's see if we can actually get iTunes installed. For the record, I've been using iTunes since 2004 (From XP-Vista-Win 7) and have not had issues. I will say though that I only use is for my audio player. In fact I don't use any audio player BUT iTunes. I currently have 10.1 installed. So to answer the question.... iTunes WILL work under Windows 7 64-bit.

With that said, what version are you trying to install? And where are you getting the file from? You should be getting it from Apple.... Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now

Also, can you post screen shots of error messages?

Thanks

Thank you for re-focusing on the real issue- the corrupt iTunes installation. It seems that I may have resolved this problem. I booted into Safe Mode and did a complete un-installation of all iTunes/Apple components, as outlined in the How-To-Geek protocol Completely Remove iTunes and Other Apple Software from a Windows Computer. Then, per your suggestion, I downloaded the latest version of iTunes from Apple's website. I was expecting the usual complications upon installation, but to my surprise, iTunes 10.1 installed on my WIn 7 64-bit PC without a hitch. I can now view m4v videos and browse the iTunes Store. Thanks to all who responded! Best Regards...
