Make computer hibernate in spite of open program

I like to fall asleep listening to music or an audiobook, either in iTunes or a program called Overdrive. For several days I have been trying to figure out if there is a way to set my laptop to hibernate once I'm asleep -- after a half an hour, say -- thus overriding the program which is running.

Could anyone shed some light? I wasn't sure where to post this, so all due apologies if it is in the wrong place.

I have configured the power settings and advanced power settings in every way I could think might accomplish what I'm aiming for, and nothing worked.

Have tried configuring that option, as well. I'm not sure if having a file playing makes the computer decide it's active and therefore ineligible to sleep or hibernate.

Some programs will not allow the PC to sleep/hibernate when they are running no matter what the Windows settings are.
Look through the configuration options for your programs to see if there is an option to allow sleep.
You can also look through the program documentation to see if there is any info about this.

If you can not find a setting to allow hibernate, you could try creating a scheduled task to kill the processes that are preventing hibernate and/or force a hibernate.
