Here's the situation: I have Win7 installed on my ultrabook and want XP on it as well.

But, since my ultrabook does not have a DVD drive, I can only install XP from the hard drive.

So, how would I go about making my HDD XP bootable (on another partition) so I can run XP setup in DOS mode?

I have my bcdedit create an {ntldr} entry and placed NTLDR & NTDETECT.COM into the boot partition, but that only causes additional problems, like "missing HAL, etc" on boot....

What XP files need to go where for my XP partition to be DOS-bootable?

You can install a Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP from flash stick, fomatting the flash stick first with one of the apps suggested in this updated tutorial: How to Install Windows XP from USB Flash Drive - WinToFlash Guide

The update link warns that Win2Flash which has always been reliable in the past now has sneakware in its download so proceed with caution or use the alternative tool recommended in the Update. I'd only download W2F if you are skilled at avoiding sneakware, otherwise use one of the others provided.

Yes. But, I want to to know how to do it myself. I aapreciate software like EasyBCD, but it's not as fun as tweaking the boot menu with native programs like bcdedit...
