make text and other items larger or smaller

anybody know if it's possible to change these presets (reached via the screen resolution menu)?

my eyes aren't what they used to be, and a little magnification would make things a little easier.

however, certain things, such as non-windows notification icons, look terrible at 125%.

i'm hoping it's just a simple registry key, so i can experiment with 110% etc. if it's a lot of kerfuffle, i don't think i'll bother...

anybody know how?
