Make Usb hard drive Bootable

Hello,
Sir I am having 500gb usb hardisk in which i had create a partition of 10gb and i want to create that partition bootable with windows 7 pls tellme what to do there are many ways given to make harddisk bootable but its for complete harddisk not for selected partition.

If you are trying to make a Windows Operating System boot independently from USB connected Hard Disk Drive, it's not possible at all.

Have a look at this first tutorial to make a bootable USB stick with the Windows 7 installation media, then you may care to have a look at the additional information listed below.

To start fresh with a clean installation or clean install with an upgrade version of Windows 7, it may be best to over-write the Master Boot Record of any possible corruption and then use the Windows installer to create and format the partition(s) for installation, have a look at the "#6 clean" option of Method One in this first tutorial linked below.

I have a laptop with Win7 pro installed.... I want to take the HDD out and put it in an external USB HDD adapter and boot it on a different but the same type of laptop. The BIOS is configured to look at USB first, the Boot process starts then crashes with BSOD. Do I need to re-image the drive with an ISO that is USB bootable?

It's not going to happen. The OS is NOT portable. The OS will not start from an external drive. It MUST be installed on the system that will use it. Please read the posts to accomplish an install.

It is not that easy. You need an iso and a separate product key for starters. Then you need a fast disk (e.g. a SSD or a super fast flash drive plus a fast port (USB3 or eSata). A HDD or USB2 will run like molasses and are no fun.

If you have all those ingredients, I suggest you experiment with Windows 10TP. There you do not need a product key. Here is how:

Thanks for the confirmation.... I'm going to go for the P2V migration route and just make a virtual machine. Way less hassle.

What about Acronis, Clonezilla and Caspar 8? I have been recommenced by my techie to consider these as capable of making a bootable clone (that is, of the entire C: drive and personal stuff (docs., etc.)) Future Systems Solutions (Caspar 8) told me in writing that it could produce a sector-by-sector bootable backup of the source drive on to an external HD which, when used to boot, will result in everything being back to when the clone was made.

You are talking about 2 different things. Cloning a drive is no big deal - any good imaging program can do that - but booting the clone from USB is not possible. It is possible from eSata though.

Thanks Wolfgang. That's what I was trying to get across. Also; Even though the clone may boot (eSATA, Network), if it's not booted to the same PC it came from, the Certification is voided.

I think you are confusing boot from an ISO and boot from an installed OS (clone).
