Solved Make Windows 7 installation partition bootable

Hello everyone I have copied the contents of a windows 7 x64 installation DVD onto a hard disk partition. This is so I can launch installation and recovery's from disk without the need for a DVD or DVD-drive. Can anybody tell me how to make this partition bootable ?

Just use easybcd to add a boot menu entry for that partition. If you dont know what I'm talking about, follow this tut.

Ray, my friend....one can use easybcd or not. If one uses easybcd, one gets a boot menu entry that can be selected to boot into the required partition. Its very convenient and takes away the hassle of having to mark partitions active/inactive. Thats the way I advised the OP and also the way used in that tut. If you'd like to tell the OP how to go about it without easybcd, please explain to him how to mark partitions active/inactive. Between the 2 methods, I'd always advise using easybcd.

You'll still need to mark the partition you want to boot to active. Its not possible to have both partitions active simultaneously.

Yes, you would mark the Recovery partition active, than install.

Why rely on your system to boot for repairs or Reinstall when you can simply write the Win7 installation DVD to flash stick to use for Repairs or reinstallation:

Install UltraISO trial version, on File tab open DVD or ISO, on Bootable tab Write Disk Image, Format, Write.

Your best Recovery method is to save a Win7 backup image externally so that if Win7 becomes unbootable you can reimage the HD or its replacement in 20 minutes. Plus make your Recovery Disks if factory OEM so you have the macro option to revert to factory condition in case the Recovery partition doesn't run or you want to get rid of it.
