Hi

I'd like to optimise windows such that it doesn't look for networks when I start up. I'd like to choose myself when to be signed in to network and when not to, just like I can open a program and then close it. At the moment if I disconnect my wifi connection it looks for a new automatically, and finds the very same and logs in to that one again. Is there any way to solve this?

Thx
Andreas

Make a shortcut on your desktop for the WiFi network adapter then right click and select disable.

Double clicking enables it whenever you want.

Go to Control Panel> Network and Sharing Center..... In the left column (left side top) you will see..... Manage Wireless Networks click it and in the next screen you can adjust your setting for each of your connections.
Highlight the network you want to change the settings to and right click it, then choose... Properties.... you will see three check boxes.... Uncheck the first box..."Connect automatically when this network is in range" Then just "OK" your way out....Do this to all networks you want to NOT automatically connect.

To connect to a network just click on the Wifi icon in your "Taskbar Notification Area" (next to clock on taskbar) and pick a network to connect to, or disconnect from.

When connecting to a NEW network, uncheck the box for "automatically connect" before connecting to it.

If all you want to prevent is WiFi from connecting to a network - then jeepmann4x4 has your answer.

If you do not want the network adapter to continually scan for access points, then only enable it when you want to connect.

It depends on what "optimize windows" means to you :-)

Okay, many thanks for the answers, although neither of them made what I was actually looking for. I found another solution, I created an irreak network and made that my primary network, so windows is continuously looking for a network but never finds any, until I check in the secondary network.
Thanks again, anyway
