Making a bootable DVD from the Windows 7 ISO?

My current problem is that I have XP and have a virus so I want to do a fresh reformat and install. I purchased W7 Ultimate and have the iso, I have burnt the ISO and when I try to run the setup in XP I keep getting an error and the installation quits. I need to know how to get the ISO to boot directly from the DVD when I startup so I can install that way. I have changed my BIOS and it still doesn't recognize it says something about being unrecognized format. Also does it matter that my hdd is a sata drive because while researching I have seen people having problems? thanks

If you have the ISO, you can burn it to a DVD using this tool: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

You can also create a bootable thumb drive that way.

Apart from the great suggestionsgiven by my friend Jonathan, there is a easyest way to burn iso (disk image) files in disks. That is ImgBurn .

Download Imgburn from that location (very tiny, only about 4.5 mb), install and run , press ist button (red marked in the screenshot), select the target iso by browsing, select the destination (your dvd drive), and burn.

If your 7 is a 32 bit one, you may emulate the iso using daemon tools windows 7 and install it from XP logged on. Then you needn't to burn the iso.

The problems you are running into as far as installation is trying to run the 7 installer while booted in XP already infected with a virus plus being two versions back. You need to boot from the dvd you burn. nount the iso on a second partition or drive, or even write the image to a large enough usb flash drive as Jonathan_King suggested. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html

The shareware version of UltraISO however does a fantastic job of writing any iso disk image onto a flash drive making it bootable at the same time if your bios supports booting from usb devices. It was first used on the beta and later RC builds for usb installation keys and even with the retail 7.

The first thing however you want to proceed with is wiping the entire drive to rule out any lingering traces of the virus. files stored in separate non MS created folders you made can also be effected. Before trying to back up any files you will need to run deep scan sweeps to see if any found infected can be healed.

Once the drive is wiped you can then proceed with a clean install of 7.

Deep clean the HD using Win7 DVD Repair console>Recovery Tools>Command Line:
Type:
DISKPART
LIST DISK
Select disk # (for target HD to clean)
CLEAN ALL
EXIT
Now reboot DVD to Custom Install using Drive Tools to create new partition(s) as you wish, format before installing.

After install, find any missing drivers at the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer/device.

Suggest MS Essentials for AV, lightest weight and most effective.

The one complaint on the MS Essentials is having a full screen program interrupted when any update is available for that! I turned off the check for updates option due to that annoyance being seen. Other then that however it will alert you right off if anything(adbots, trojans) does get on the drive.

For IE users one tip is to install the 8.5 or 9.0 version of AVG but disable the main program leaving the IE security bar enabled. That will do more to filter and alert you to bugs before they get on giving you time to either back away from any bad site or close that IE window. I haven't come across a good security bar for other browsers however.
